Anglicare North Queensland Limited (Anglicare NQ) operates many programs across North Queensland with activities extending south through Mackay, to Townsville, and north to Cairns, the Cape and to the Torres Strait. About the Position

Safe Night Out Rest & Recovery is a funded program within the Safe Night Out Precinct zone operating on Friday and Saturday evenings, and on an additional six nights per year for special events and public holidays. The purpose of Safe Night Out is to identify nightclub/venue patrons who are vulnerable or at risk, and to provide them with practical assistance and care. The service aims to assist with the safe dispersal of people from the Airlie Beach Safe Night Out Precinct and with the enhancement of public safety.

The successful candidate will have current first aid and CPR qualifications with practical experience. You will also have good people skills, endless patience, a sense of calmness and great initiative. It is preferable that you also have an understanding of public space issues as well as alcohol and drug misuse. 

Key Outcomes
Position responsibilities    

  • Providing practical assistance and compassionate care to nightclub/venue patrons, particularly those who are vulnerable or at risk.
  • Assisting with setup and pack up of the Rest and Recovery service and help to supervise the area during operation.
  • Upholding all relevant legislative obligations, best practice principles and service standards, inclusive of privacy and confidentiality, and in accordance with the Safe Night Out Program.
  • Keeping the Senior Worker regularly informed of issues and needs relating to the position.
  • Maintaining clear, objective, accurate and timely verbal and written communications
  • Reporting incidents in accordance with ANGLICARE and Safe Night Program's policies and procedures and in a timely manner
  • Developing and maintain a sound working relationship with volunteers and staff, including chaplain volunteers from Townsville Street Chaplains.
  • Developing strong partnerships with other services operating in the Safe Night Out Precinct including security, police and ambulance.

Key Relationships    

  • Works collaboratively with Anglicare NQ Executives, Managers, Staff and Volunteers.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with Anglicare NQ partners, other Non-Government Organisations (NGO) and local community businesses.
  • QLD and Commonwealth Government Departments, e.g. Department of Human Services, Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs and other government departments as required.

Special Conditions

  • Hold a current QLD drivers licence ‘Class C’ or interstate equivalent
  • Blue Card (Working with children card)
  • Satisfactory Employment Screening Assessment(s) required for this role in line with Anglicare NQ Policy:
    - National Policy Check
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certificate

Selection Criteria
Essential

  • Ability to engage with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Ability to manage crisis situations and challenging behaviours
  • The ability to record objective and factual case notes
  • Good computer skills
  • Capacity to work evenings on Friday, Saturday and Public Holidays between the hours of 10pm to 3.30am.

Highly Regarded

  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities.
  • Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.
  • Awareness and/or experience working with people experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Awareness and/or experience working with people experiencing alcohol and other drugs challenges.
