The Role

An opportunity exists for an Anatomical Pathologist to join the team at Northern Health. The Anatomical Pathology Unit in a new purpose-built dynamic Laboratory to provide an evolving service to the Northern hospital, its campuses and surrounds. The anatomical pathology unit is located at the Epping campus, consisting of Histopathology, Cytopathology Immunohistochemistry, Immunofluorescence and Mortuary.  A broad range of diagnostic histology and non-gynaecological cytology specimens will be processed in the unit.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Appointee must be a legally qualified practitioner, registered with the AHPRA Medical Board of Australia
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (or equivalent) in Anatomical Pathology.
  • Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in diagnostic Anatomical Pathology.
  • Experience in Anatomical Pathology in a major teaching hospital.
  • An established record in research in the discipline of Anatomical Pathology.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with medical, clinical, laboratory and administrative staff.
  • Have sound written communication skills sufficient to produce reports, Specialist/ technical/medical papers, education material, letters to clients, physicians, patients or patient family about routine, non-routine or sensitive issues.
  • Skill in dealing with physically ill, emotional and/or distressed patients, family and staff.
  • Able to be assertive and stand firm on issues when appropriate.
  • Able to work with a team of varying skill levels and knowledge base.
