About this Program
Carer Gateway is an Australian Government program providing free services and support for carers. Wellways Australia is the first point of contact for all Australian Government Carer Gateway funded services across NSW. The aim of the Carer Gateway is to help Carers access practical information and advice and connect with services in their local area. Carer Gateway provides many services to support carers in their caring role, including in person and phone counselling services.
About the opportunity
The Coordinator Community Engagement and Volunteering is a newly created role that exists to coordinate and develop Community Engagement and Volunteering within the Carer Gateway service. The new Carer Gateway Services have been created in the context of national reforms and represent an exciting new era for the delivery of innovative carer services.
Carer Gateway Services consist of 6 unique service types;
Carer Support Planning: Intake needs assessment and planning Carer Coaching In-person peer support In-person counselling Carer-directed support packages Emergency respite care
This role will identify and facilitate initiatives and opportunities that promote the inclusion of, and build the capacity of, people and community groups to access Carer Gateway services and achieve healthy, strong and connected communities. The role will develop and strengthen relationships with carers within the communities that they live in and to work towards our vision of providing support services that include individuals, families and communities.
The Coordinator Community Engagement and Volunteering will actively engage with the community by way of hands-on, strategic stakeholder Engagement and communications. The role will lead the creation of a best-practice Community Development Program with the aim of identifying hidden or hard to reach carers and connect them with Carer Gateway Services. This person will be driving relationships with key stakeholders, which will include carers, the broader community, NGOs, business associations and other community groups.
The role will also be responsible for developing and coordinating a Volunteer Engagement Program to ensure that Carer Gateway has robust and viable opportunities for people to contribute, promote and support the deliver Carer Gateway services.
Reporting to the Carer Gateway Services Manager and working under limited direction this role is responsible for:
- Identifying hidden or hard to reach carers and communities
- Developing and coordinating a Community and Volunteer Engagement Program
- Applying coproduction principles and methodologies to program development
- Arrange and attend local events to ensue the Carer Gateway is promoted and accessible to community members
Critical to success in this role is the incumbent’s ability to;
- Understand the nature of the caring role and evidence based, best practice supports that enable carers to sustain in their caring role and enhance their own wellbeing and identity
- Understand, advocate for and lead the implementation of lived experience in program design and implementation, prioritizing coproduction methodologies at every point
- Understand the national carer policy, legislation and service landscape
You will also need:
- Significant demonstrable experience in volunteer Engagement and management and/or Community Development.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships, work in consultation and provide leadership in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Experience working in coordinating a team of volunteer staff.
- Ability to work flexibly, independently and creatively in a demanding NFP environment.
- Demonstrated ability to instigate and facilitate Community Engagement.
- Current valid Driver’s License
- Appropriate IT skills
- Satisfactory National Police Records Check – within 12 months
