Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual for the role of Coordinator Development Compliance. This role sits within Council's Development Planning and Engineering Program and is a full-time permanent position based in Mackay.

In the position of Coordinator Development Compliance, you will be responsible for providing services in relation to Development Compliance, building certification and plumbing assessment to the community. This includes administering and enforcing development related legislation and providing advice to customers. The role involves leading and managing a team and providing expert technical advice relating to Development Compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Development Compliance team.
  • Contribute to budget development and management.
  • Provide input on strategic and operational processes, including workforce planning and business plans.
  • Ensure timely and effective project completion.
  • Promote workplace health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Develop and manage operational policies and procedures, ensuring legislative compliance.
  • Offer expert technical advice on land use, plumbing assessment, and building compliance.
  • Oversee outcomes and action client requests in these areas.
  • Provide high-level customer service.
  • Ensure compliance through inspections, correspondence, legal advice,evidence collection, and coordinating legal actions.
  • Negotiate Development Compliance and plumbing assessment matters with stakeholders.
  • Prepare evidence and represent the Council in legal proceedings.

Qualifications:

  • Degree (preferred), Diploma, Trade qualification or significant relevant experience in Planning, Building, Plumbing, Legal Studies, Investigation, Compliance, or related discipline.
  • QLD "C" Class Drivers Licence or equivalent (must transfer to QLD within three months of commencement).

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in regulatory compliance, team leadership, budget management, and policy development/implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships, ensure workplace safety, and manage health and wellbeing.
  • Strong skills in team management, problem-solving, negotiation, report writing, business case development, and use of corporate systems and Microsoft Office products.
  • Qualification (Cert IV and above) in Business Management or related field. (highly regarded)
  • General Construction Induction Card. (desirable)
