The Coordinator - Tourism & Events reports to the Manager of Communications, Business & Engagement and aims to support and grow the prosperity of the region by encouraging and identifying opportunities, focusing on Tourism and Events. Leading a small team, you will be accountable for ensuring the implementation of strategic business objectives to achieve optimum outcomes for the organisation. The role will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the Tourism and Events functions of Council are managed efficiently and effectively to support the delivery of Council's outcomes.
Specific accountabilities include:
- Create and deliver a full tourism service for visitor and residents.
- Actively pursue opportunities for the benefit of the service, community and visitors.
- Run tourism sector events to obtain a full 360 view of tourism priorities, to ensure ongoing communication with industry and work as a collective.
- Form, create, and continue partnerships for the benefit of the tourism sector that results in increased event visitation to the region, economic growth and improved community outcomes.
- Play a key advisory role to stakeholder groups in the planning, communication, promotion, resourcing, logistics and operation of events including the coordination of any council facilitated services.
- Negotiate agreements with State, Federal departments and external companies/businesses on behalf of Gympie Regional Council.
- Positions the region as an events destination for social, arts and cultural, sporting and business events through the production or procurement of major events.
- Assist with budgets and monitor relevant income and expenditure of the approved events budgets in accordance with Council, organisational and Branch strategies and in line with organisational timeframes and standards.
Your ability to understand key business drivers and translate these into sound commercial decisions in a similar environment or related industry will be highly regarded.
