The Regulation Directorate sits within the Transport Policy and Regulation Division and is responsible for driving the Government’s regulation and policy initiatives and by regulating people and vehicles, ensures improved road safety outcomes, and the protection of transport users and the public.
The Vehicle Operations Section undertakes varying functions that contribute to this important work including vehicle inspection, vehicle engineering services and standards, delivery of the Vehicle Identity Assessment Station (VIDAS) and Accident Towing.
We are looking to recruit a Coordinator, Vehicle Standards role who will lead a small team of Vehicle Standards Officers responsible for enabling effective and efficient administration of the law relating to imported, modified, individually constructed and special purpose vehicles.
This includes:
- the provision of direction, support and training to Vehicle Standards staff members, monitor and address the activities and performance of the work team and ensure work outputs meet appropriate standards.
- coordinating the timely and efficient administration of the law relating to the issue of exemptions and ensuring the quality and accuracy of certification issued.
- coordinating the provision of accurate and timely information, advice and interpretation of the Road Traffic Act and Regulations, Australian Design Rules, vehicle manufacturers’ specifications, Codes of Practice and associated Australian/International Standards.
- conducting complex analysis and interpretation to provide direction and information on Australian Design Rules and other technical matters to Team members and vehicle inspectors.

Requirements
An appropriate Automotive or vehicle related trade or qualification is essential, as well as demonstrated vehicle compliance knowledge and expertise.
Special Conditions
Prior to employment with the Department, the successful candidate will be required to provide:
- A National Police Check (NPC) which is required to be renewed every three years.
- A Department for Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check (WWCC) which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry.
Remuneration
ASO5 - $84,522 to $94,003 per annum
