We are looking for a passionate and values-driven Coordinator -Water and Tailings to play a critical role in supporting a small operations team to meet safety, production, and operational efficiency targets. The focus of the team is the management and supply of water and water treatment for mining and township operations.

This role is a great opportunity for someone with a strong work ethic and a ‘can do’ attitude to help lead and work alongside our talented Supervisors to assist the day-to-day and improvement initiatives. Reporting to the Supervisor working a 4/5/5 Lifestyle roster the coordinator will be responsible for:
- Supporting a team of operators/maintainers working on water supply, waste water treatment and tailings infrastructure
- Supporting and assisting with leading the team towards achieving an interdependent safety culture by utilizing daily shift starts, safety interactions, human performance and critical risk management tools
- Maintaining a strong level of control over the water supply, water treatment and tailings infrastructure which includes:
- Operating multiple tailings dams across 2 operational mines
- Mine processing and potable water supply for the Active mining precincts at Andoom and East Weipa and the Township of Weipa.
- Drinking water disinfection and treatment systems
- Multiple Sewage Treatment plants including the Town sewage treatment plants
- Sewage collection and distribution infrastructure (pumps stations, rising mains and associate networks
- Fostering a culture of continuous improvement in safe production
What you will bring
To successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- Previous leadership experience of a dynamic team in an operational environment
- Previous experience in Tailings, water delivery and water/waste water treatment plant operations
- Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills
- Intermediate computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office suite applications
- Experience in SAP
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Qualifications relevant to water supply and water delivery and preferably tailings experience
- Experience working in a highly regulated operational environment

This position is a residential role in Weipa. The successful applicant will be supported with relocation if coming from outside of Weipa and will be eligible for company housing. This position is based at the Andoom mine centre; which is in close driving proximity to Weipa Town. This role’s shift arrangement is Day work only working (with on call) on a 4/5/5 fortnight in Weipa.

Where you’ll be working
Our Weipa operations in Far North Queensland includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals.
Andoom & East Weipa are the historic backbone of Weipa Operations and play a pivotal agile role in supporting our other Rio Tinto Bauxite operations, Amrun and Gove. The mines are located on traditional land. We work closely with the Traditional Owners to implement our agreements, ensuring that the benefits generated from mining support future generations and that important cultural heritage sites are identified and preserved.
