This open-cut thermal coal operation consists of a full suite of mining activities inclusive of dragline, truck and excavator, dozer push, mine site rehabilitation, coal processing, coal crushing, product haulage and train load-out activities. 

The Blair Athol Coal mine is located 24 km northwest of the family-friendly township of Clermont in Central Queensland, 120 km northwest of Emerald and 275 km southwest of Mackay.

The Role

We are hiring an experienced Cost Controller to provide support to our teams to ensure a rigorous, accountable and cost conscious culture is developed and maintained across our business.  Based at our BA Minesite and reporting to the Finance Superintendent, this role will provide cost analysis, financial reporting and expertise to ensure that expenditure is targeted, transparent and delivers the mine site the greatest value for money, to ensure we maintain our proud position as a low cost producer.  

Responsibilities of the Role:

• Drive financial awareness across the mine site and ensure financial practices are in line with company policy.
• Review all expenditure across site including operational and capital expenditure. 
• Assist in the preparation and review of budgets and monthly forecasts to ensure the alignment of actual expenditure with budget/forecast.
• Deliver detailed cost analysis on monthly results, including accrual assessment, cost allocation and variance analysis.
• Identification of cost saving initiatives and compile proposals to implement cost saving initiatives for consideration/approval.
• Assist in the identification and development of tailored reporting and systems to facilitate effective cost review and cost forecasting.
• Report weekly to Corporate and Site Management for key deliverables
• Work closely with the Blair Athol Inventory Controller to assess inventory purchase arrangements and identify spend patterns, assist with analysis relating to tenders and vendor selection.
• Monitor and report on capital expenditure projects and complete detailed analysis and report project overruns / variations in a timely manner. 

Skills and Experience:

• Tertiary qualification in Finance, Economics, Accounting or a similar field.
• Experience in mining, mining services or construction industry.
• Very good interpersonal skills, including excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to solve problems independently and within a team environment.
• A professional work ethic and the ability to strive for continuous improvement.
• Ability to work under pressure, with reliability and accuracy.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Flexibility and a ‘can do’ attitude are essential.
• Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Knowledge of Pronto (or similar ERP system).
