North Queensland Region Department of Education are seeking a temporary practitioner with both a case management and strategic focus to provide support for young people connected with the youth justice system to engage in education. You will present education information to the Children's Court, as well as provide practical support to re-integrate young people into an appropriate educational pathway. Using strong stakeholder engagement, cultural capability and relationship skills you will work with the key stakeholders of the Children's Court, as well as community groups, families and young people. You will have a strong understanding of the complex needs of young people involved with the justice system and be able to liaise with schools and alternative education providers to implement sustainable education outcomes.

The position will work within the Schools and Student Support Division in Mount Isa, within the NQR Student Child and Family Connect team.
About the Role:
As a Court Liaison Officer you will work with at-risk young people appearing in the Children's Court in Mount Isa to assess their education needs and support their reintegration into an appropriate education pathway.
The Court Liaison Officer is required to attend court and provide educational history in relation to the young person to the court to support engagement or re-engagement in an education or training pathway.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to;
The Court Liaison Officer reports to the Director, Student, Child and Family Connect, to provide the following services:
- Build strong relationships with young people and their families involved in the youth justice system in a culturally sensitive manner;
- Provide information related to a young person's education history and status to the courts.
- Provide an education department perspective when liaising with a range of stakeholders including Magistrates, youth justice services, legal representatives, police, community justice groups and community organisations.
- Develop appropriate educational planning and pathways in collaboration with DoE regional staff, school leaders, school staff, partnering agencies including Youth Justice and Child Safety and other relevant stakeholders.
- Adhere strictly to information sharing protocols within legislative and policy requirements.
- Collect and collate data in relation to the CLO role to support program improvement and supporting against strategic directives.
