What YOU WILL ACHIEVE

Database Optimisation Administrator is responsible for developing and maintaining databases, ensuring data security, tuning performance, backing up data, and providing training and support to users. They are also responsible for addressing all allocated 2nd and 3rd Level Service Calls, System Incidents, Change Requests and Work Orders.

What YOUR DAY LOOKS LIKE

The key accountabilities for this role include:

Customer Obsessed & Delivering Service Like No Other

  • Partner with Technology team to develop and implement a strategic technology infrastructure plan that aligns with business objectives
  • Proactively build and maintain strong relationships with key Technology team members and business stakeholders, ensure clear communication of the status of service-related issues and proactively obtain feedback to drive continuous improvement opportunities
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify and address technology infrastructure needs and provide technical guidance for projects and initiatives.

Driving Commercial & Operational Achievement

  • Design, implement, and maintain David Jones cloud and on-premise infrastructure database instances.
  • Administration of the Oracle stack (OVM, ORL, Exadata, WebLogic and Oracle DBs), SQL and IBM DB2 databases
  • Address all allocated 2nd and 3rd Level Service Calls, System Incidents, Change Requests and Work Orders delegated from the IT Service Desk and IT reporting Managers.
  • Build database systems of high availability and quality depending on each end user’s specialised role
  • Define users and enable data distribution to the right user, in appropriate format and in a timely manner
  • Use high-speed transaction recovery techniques and backup data
  • Minimise database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
  • Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users
  • Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards
  • Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for all aspects of the company’s cloud and on-premise Database infrastructure
  • Manage security requirements for cloud and on-premise computing solutions and ensure compliance with those requirements by designing new solutions or modifying existing solutions
  • Implement and maintain infrastructure policies, standards, and standard operating procedures to ensure compliance and security
  • Monitor and analyse system performance, security vulnerabilities, and capacity planning to proactively address potential issues
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and solutions that align with business objectives and enhance infrastructure capabilities

  • As the Database Optimisation Administrator, you will be responsible for supporting David Jones database infrastructure
  • Provide guidance and technical expertise to the Infrastructure team designing, implementing, and maintaining the database solutions

  • Report injuries or hazards as per policy and support return to work programs.

What YOU’LL NEED TO THRIVE

Experiences

  • At least 5 years of experience in Infrastructure and cloud engineering or a related field.
  • Experience working within similar corporate / retail environments, partnering with Technology team and the business to achieve business outcomes and optimise customer / end user experience

Technical Skills

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience administering, configuring and managing large database environments
  • Extensive experience working with Oracle, Microsoft SQL and IBM databases 
  • Knowledge of Cloud and Network architectures, technologies and topologies
  • Proven experience working in an IT Service Management capacity, with ITIL service management knowledge and experience, ITIL V4 preferred 
  • Retail industry experience highly regarded
  • Excellent relationship building skills to work effectively with internal business stakeholders
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Proven ability to prioritise and plan, making insightful recommendations with an enterprise-wide consideration for technology and business needs
