Our Day Surgery Unit (DSU) Medical Receptionist, known as DSU Patient Services Coordinators plays an important part in providing quality administration and clerical support within our on-site Day Surgery Unit.
The successful candidate will be joining a high performing, collaborative and compassionate team who continuously provide exceptional service to our patients to directly enhance patient experience.
Reporting to the Patient Services Team Leader, some of the responsibilities of the DSU Patient Services Coordinator include:
- delivering caring customer service to internal and external stakeholders
- providing professional reception services, through all communication channels
- ensuring the readiness and cleaniness of the reception area
- managing all billing services within the Day Surgery unit effectively and efficiently, including the manaegement of debt collections within designated timeframes
- providing patients with Day Surgery information about treatment costs, methods of payments and timing of payments; to accurately invoice and receipt payments; to receive and bank cash in accordance with company protocols
- Prepare all necessary paperwork for the theatre lists
- confirming eligbilility for private health funds for patients
- submitting health fund claims in a timely manner
- managing day to day operational issues and escualuate where necessary
- resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner, otherwise collaborating with the Patient Services and/or Billing Team Leader to achieve quick resolution
- developing and maintaining a collaborative relationship with other Patient Service Coordinators and the NSW Billing team
The ideal candidate will see their role as vital to the success of the organisation and to the Day Surgery unit at Sydney CBD.
Understanding there are ups and down in reproductive health, the DSU Patient Services Coordinator will have a genuine interest in fertility solutions and be sensitive to the needs of patients and display exceptional communication skills.
Ideally you will bring the following:
- The desire and passion to provide exceptional customer service to our patients and internal contacts

- Knowledge in medical billing (Day Surgery advantageous)
- Excellent and efficient cash handling skills
- Strong knowledge of arithmetic and ability to perform simple calculations

- Willingness to pass on knowledge to others within the patient services team
- Superior organisation and time management skills with proven ability to multitask
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and well-developed communication skills including presentation skills
- A willingness to work collaboratively within a small multidisciplinary team
- A focus on timely outcomes with the ability to prioritise
- Strong attention to detail
- High level of initiative and a can-do attitude
- Dynamic, flexible and adaptable
