Who Are We

Scope Works is an Australia-wide major project and program management, project controls, scheduling consultancy serving the Defence, Government, Infrastructure, Resources and ICT Technology industries. Scope Works has significant experience and reputation in implementing and supporting Government Defence customers' total 'end-to-end' project management, PMO, planning, scheduling, Earned Value Management EVM, cost and project controls capabilities.
 

Significant experience, reputation and business dealings with “above the line” the Australian Defence Government contracts across CASG and all the major LAND, AIR, SEA Domains. 

Our consultants typically have significant hands-on experience working and being trained by Defence Prime Contractors in executing large, complex ASDEFCON programs and projects. 

Scope Works, importantly provides opportunities and trains our consultants with client work across a cross range of industries, not just Defence or one industry. 

Our Scope Works team comprises of, and you will have direct access to development opportunities with, many of industries respected peer level professionals and best practice processes in the disciplines of Program, Project Management, PMO, Planning, Scheduling, Earned Value Management, Cost and Risk Management.

About The Role

This is an expression of interest for experienced Planner Schedulers, Cost Analysts and PMO Project Officers with 3 years + experience to join Scope Works for opportunities particularly  based in Canberra, but also other cities around Australia. 

These opportunities include operational working both directly with Defence SPO's Programs and Projects. 

Functional excellence roles supporting Defence in uplifting its Scheduling and PMO capability and best practices and providing training, coaching and conducting assurance reviews across Defence projects. 

Operational Defence Project Scheduler Roles

The Operational Defence Project Scheduler roles will be responsible for: 

  • Be accountable to the respective Project Managers for the development and maintenance of project planning activities, with a focus on schedule management.   
  • Reviewing, reporting and recommending approval of Prime Contractors detailed Contract Master Schedule against CMS DID reporting requirements in the Contract. 
  • Responsible for producing and updating the total Defence Program Integrated Program Schedule (IMS), which includes incorporation of the Prime Contractor Contract Master Schedule (CMS), and Key Suppliers, GFx, FIC, Gates, Resources.   
  • Reviewing and ensuring the Projects Schedules comply with Scheduling best practice and CASG policy, process requirements.
  • Conduct regular Schedule Health checks.
  • Develop, maintain and report on project schedules, milestones in Open Plan Professional (OPP) and other Scheduling tools such as MS Project.
  • Provide input to monthly reporting at various Project Performance and other governance and assurance forums, including schedule related reporting and correspondence. 
  • Providing proactive advice and recommendations to Project Managers relating to schedule status and performance (e.g. critical path analysis) and identifying issues and concerns
  • Provide advice to management on recovery planning and Risks to the Project schedule and delivery. 
  • Responsible as the scheduling subject matter expert (SME) to Project planning activities including ensuring technical schedule compliance with Defence CASG requirements and processes.
  • Attend Risk Workshops, providing scheduling subject matter expertise (SME), conducting what if and Schedule Risk Analysis (e.g. using Monte Carlo analysis) and risk treatment plans in project and program schedules. 
  • Update and report OPP milestones, tasks and Schedule analysis to finance.

Experience & Training

  • Knowledge of and training in Defence Open Plan Professional (OPP) Scheduling tool is highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of and experience in Earned Value Management (EVM) is highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of One Defence Capability System (ODCS), Fundamentals into Capability, Gate Reviews. 
  • Take the initiative to prioritise and progress work to meet business objectives. 
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills so they can effectively engage with all stakeholders, including those from non-technical backgrounds, where they will be required to describe complex technical issues, in crisp, concise and accurate forms.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and also independently.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills. 
  • Must be an Australian Citizen and hold a current NV1 Security Clearance.

2. Defence Functional Capability Uplift Roles

Scope Works is a Project Management, PMO, Project Controls capability improvement uplift company and we have made significant investment in our own unique and proven practical best practice processes, systems, training and governance capabilities.

Candidates for Defence functional roles should possess:

  • Strong knowledge, experience and preferably training in understanding best practices in Project Management, Scheduling, Project Controls. 
  • Strong conceptual and process technical writing skills.
  • Ability to produce and conduct training to various audiences.
  • Strong Governance skills to be able to conduct audits and independent reviews.

About you:

  • Current NV1 or Baseline Government Security Clearance is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience as a planner/scheduler in the Defence Environment.
  • Experience working in a PMO or in a project team delivering defence projects.
  • Experience in MS Project, Open Plan Professional (OPP) or P6 Primavera highly regarded.
  • Experience in Earned Value Management (EVM) an advantage.
  • A drive to work on and support critical projects and programs that build sovereign capability.
  • Possess strong teamwork and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Have exceptional organisational, time management and prioritisation skills, with strong analytical, written and verbal skills.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including document editing, formatting of external documents to project standards.
