The Deputy Director-General, Communities, is responsible for, but not limited to:
- Providing and ensuring support following disruptive critical community events and tragedies, including to Victims of Crime.
- Overseeing Community Recovery (lead for Human and Social Recovery) in Queensland following natural disasters. Working closely with, and coordinating the work of, non-Government partners, such as Red Cross, lifeline, and Uniting Care and GIVIT to ensure Communities access a range of social services and counselling.
- Directing the advocacy and utilisation of partnerships across government and various sectors to enhance public value through strategy development, program management, and commissioning arrangements.
- Leading the development, design, implementation and evaluation of Community programs and initiatives, with a focus on the promotion and investment in strategies that enhance inclusion, participation, and cohesion, particularly through the Communities 2032 strategic plan for Queensland communities.
- Lead efforts to connect communities with their history through government records, particularly by managing the Queensland State Archives business division, serving as the primary government agency for recordkeeping, to support the Path to Treaty initiative by enhancing awareness of shared histories and truth-telling.
What we are looking for
The essential requirements for this role are:
- Strategic and operational collaboration across State, Commonwealth and local governments on significant Grants programs worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
- The ability to monitor and analyse performance to ensure financial sustainability, providing strategic funding advice to support thriving communities, while ensuring effective budget management in alignment with statutory responsibilities and government priorities.
- Leadership experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs for thriving communities, including Aboriginal communities and Torres Strait Islander communities, to enhance outcomes, manage disasters, advise stakeholders, foster partnerships, and facilitate communication.
- The ability to provide high-level strategic advice to the Minister, Director-General, and senior management, while leading reforms and developing partnerships, including oversight of service agreements to enhance community outcomes in Queensland.
- Establish and sustain a supportive culture aligned with departmental vision, prioritising and promoting health, safety, and wellbeing in fostering inclusive workplaces.
- Maintain high standards of governance and risk management by adhering to sound governance practices.
