This is a permanent part-time  (0.4FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2024

Medina Primary School – We show CARE

As a Deputy Principal, you will play a critical role in leading and managing the school, and will be responsible for a range of tasks and duties. You will work closely with the Principal and the administrative team to provide educational leadership in the school and the community. This involves helping to develop and promote the school's values, ethos, and priorities, and encouraging staff, volunteers, and others to share ownership of the school's vision and goals.

You will be expected to use effective change management strategies to assist the school community to accept and develop opportunities for improved service. This means keeping up-to-date with educational research and trends, and using this knowledge to drive improvement and innovation within the school.

In collaboration with the Principal and other members of the administrative team, you will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining systems, policies, and procedures to ensure that the school is operating effectively and efficiently. This includes contributing to the development of the School Plan through participative decision-making, and using your professional knowledge and understanding to promote teaching and learning within the school community.

At Medina PS, we are committed to implementing evidence-evidence based practices in our mission to empower students to be successful lifelong learners who reach their full potential. The school’s core values of CARE (Co-operation, Achievement, Respect, Engagement) are embedded in all we do and help create a learning environment that encourages students to aspire to be the best they can be.

Literacy and Numeracy continue to be the two major priorities for the school. To support our Literacy and Numeracy focus we are looking to appoint a Deputy Principal who has a dedicated approach to professional learning based on evidence-based practice – Science of Learning. The Deputy should support the implementation of whole school low variance curriculum in these areas.

As Deputy principal, you should contribute to building a positive school culture and embrace the challenge of working in a school seeking to raise standards and improve student outcomes. A knowledge of Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) to support positive behaviour management would be ideal.

One of your key responsibilities will be to provide strategic direction for staff, and to model and promote a culture of improvement of professional performance, providing coaching and mentoring where appropriate. You will be responsible for managing staff and student wellbeing.

As a Deputy Principal, you will also be accountable to the Principal for effective operations of relevant areas of responsibility. This involves ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, Departmental policies and procedures, and the management of financial, physical, and human resources. You will be responsible for ensuring that staff are provided with timely and appropriate feedback about their performance and presented with opportunities for professional learning in accordance with the Public Sector Performance Management Standard and Departmental policy.

You will also be responsible for ensuring that appropriate information systems are in place to report on compliance and the use of proper accounting procedures.
