The Role
This role is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team that are responsible for maintenance support for visiting Nuclear Submarines at HMAS Stirling. As a Naval Representative (SSN) you will be the frontline for the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group representative who provides the interface between visiting nuclear submarine crews, Submarine Rotational Force West, and the contractor workforce.
Duties include but limited to
- Tasking of contractors for conduct of maintenance on visiting Nuclear Submarines and provision of wharf side services.
- Contracted Defect Support to visiting Nuclear Submarines and response 24hours a day if required.
- Planning and tasking contractors for provision of services for visiting Nuclear submarines.
- Interface with Submarine Rotational Force West for all contracted support to visiting Nuclear Submarines.
- Assist with the development of the Submarine Rotational Force capabilities.
- Assist with the development of wider depot level maintenance support system.
- Develop tasking’s for contractor manufacturing of maintenance support equipment required for support of Nuclear Maintenance periods.
- Manage and oversight of contractor manufacturing projects for support of Nuclear Submarine Maintenance.
- Assist with Maintenance planning.
- Maintenance activity Contractor Support, Oversight and coordination.
- Safety Management oversight.
- Attendance at daily deconfliction of work meetings.
- Attend Activity Progress meetings.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
The Collins Submarine Program within the National Shipbuilding Sustainment Group (NSSG) is responsible for the maintenance and programmed upgrade of Australia’s Collins Class submarines and in conjunction with the Australian Submarine Agency, providing maintenance support for visiting Nuclear Submarines. The Program works in partnership with the Royal Australian Navy and Industry to deliver the strategic submarine capability to the nation. Our Ideal Candidate
We are seeking candidates with relevant experience and/or demonstrable knowledge in the maintenance and upkeep of Submarines and project management. Particularly in the areas of planning, progress and completion of maintenance activities and associated deliverables.
Our ideal candidate will:
- Be accountable under limited direction to support and manage contracted maintenance on visiting Nuclear Submarines.
- Have the ability to make informed decisions relating to their area of responsibility and work through tasks and projects to meet deadlines. They will undertake research and analysis, conduct reviews and perform procedural work to achieve results.
- Work collaboratively with Enterprise stakeholders (both internal and external to Defence) and subject matter experts to resolve issues.
- Require strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Demonstrated commitment to the Defence Behaviours.
