We are currently looking for Design Engineer - Civil on a permanent/full-time basis working, 38 hours per week. The candidate rate is negotiable. We are looking for someone to start immediately.

Location:            Rockingham, WA

Role Purpose:

• Develop and prepare design works for roads, footpaths, culverts, drainage, coastal facilities, recreation reserves, sporting fields, traffic calming designs and other related civil works and prepare relevant working drawings in accordance with Council’s budgeted financial constraints, required timelines and specified standards and industry best practice
• Assist the Engineering Design team to achieve team objectives by providing high quality civil engineering design, drafting and support services

Key Accountabilities:

• To support the Coordinator Design Services to ensure the delivery of Council’s Capital Works Programs.
• Prepare designs for urban and rural roads, underground drains, car parks, reserves, coastal facilities and other structures in accordance with relevant design standards and Council policies.
• Calculate quantities and produce cost estimates based on rates supplied.
• Prepare concept plans, investigations and detail design plans, specifications for traffic management works throughout the municipality.
• Maintain accurate and efficient records of estimations and designs.
• Keep abreast of the costs of the design and construction processes and ensure service is delivered within budget and the required timelines.
• Provide advice when the City’s construction team/contractors request for information during construction of the projects.
• Assist in preparing and disseminating information to the community.
• Contribute to developing procedures and promoting a quality system to achieve effective and efficient operation of the Design Services Team.
• Maintain Council’s computer aided design packages and make recommendations on updates.
• Assist in the management of the computer system in respect to drawing and design files and maintain the filing/backup system

 
Requirements of the Job:

• Minimum of three years of experience in design or municipal engineering (desirable)
• High level of skill in all aspects of civil designing techniques
• Working knowledge of Austroads, Main Roads standards and Australian Standards
• Sound and efficient computer skills
• Sound knowledge in civil engineering design and preparation of construction, documentation using AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• Ability to incorporate construction techniques to the design (desirable)
• Management of consultants as required (desirable)
• High level of written and verbal communication skills
• Experience in the preparation of contract documentation and specifications and a knowledge of municipal procedures and general workings of local government (desirable)
• Minimum qualification of Diploma of Civil Engineering
• Current ‘C’ class driver’s license
