Design Manager

AirTrunk is a rapidly growing technology company that exists to reimagine, build and operate data centres to meet the needs of the world’s most influential technology companies today and into the future. Having opened Australia’s first and largest hyperscale data centres in Western Sydney and Melbourne in 2017, we set our eyes on rapid expansion across Asia Pacific. Since then, we’ve launched in Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney North and Japan and announced a second Western Sydney data centre.

As the Design Manager, you will report to the Technical Director – Mechanical & Design and work closely with the rest of the Technology team, making your mark in a number of ways:

• You are the key unit in making sure we deliver to our customers as we say; on time and on budget
• You act as project technical lead on a number of projects within Australia and manage the design delivery with consultants and internal stakeholders. You will lead the concept design phase and scoping of customer centric solutions by engaging with hyperscale customers to develop unique solutions.
• You will be collaborating with the APAC AirTrunk Design team to drive innovation and challenge industry norms.

• Lead a project design team from inception to delivery of multi-MW hyperscale solutions including design and construction.
• Collaborate with our top cloud and enterprise customers and communicate presentations on all aspects of design.
• Develop high-level master planning, space planning and engineering solutions for potential new developments (feasibility stage).
• Produce consultant briefs in order to develop designs from the feasibility stage through concept, scheme and detailed design stages, ensuring continuity of design philosophy and approach.
• Oversee the technical aspects of directly procured equipment and facilitate alignment with our design team.
• Understand the commercial implications of engineering decisions and develop designs to work with commercial boundaries
• Contribute to AirTrunk’s internal technical learning and strategic projects in your area of expertise.

• You are currently located either in Sydney (on-site) or Melbourne (remote).
• You have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably electrical, mechanical or industrial
• You have experience interfacing with architects, design, and construction personnel within the Australian market.
• You have 2+ years of experience acting as a project design lead in a consultant or contractor role leading a group of designers to deliver design packages.
• You excel at communication; you can deliver effective presentations on data centre operations to customers, peers, and management.
• Good understanding of multi-disciplinary building services design.
• You have detailed design experience in building services, specifically, mechanical systems.
• Ideally, you have experience working for a data centre operator and previous hyperscale design and cloud experience in the APAC market.
• You are incredibly flexible and adaptable to a dynamic fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• You are willing to make decisions and be accountable for them.
• You have good leadership acumen to lead multi-disciplinary teams across multiple geographies.
