Designer / Senior Designer - Wayfinding & Interpretation (Melbourne Or Brisbane)

The Practice 

ASPECT Studios is a purpose orientated, design led landscape architecture and urban design practice. With operations across Australia, Asia and the Middle East, our studios believe in the power of design to positively change people’s behaviour and lives, the environment, and the planet. 

Though spatial and interpretive design, our Wayfinding and Interpretation team reveal the unique stories and histories of places to create meaningful connections for all, bringing together the tangible and intangible through a diverse spectrum of project opportunities including place design / landscape architecture, storytelling and interpretation, environmental graphics and integrated public art, user experience, and place and project branding.

About you  

You are an all-rounder and have experience working on small, medium, and large-scale projects.  

You are just as comfortable in in front of the client, guiding them through the design process as you are working with our team who are based across multiple studios.   

You are a strategic thinker, a self-starter who loves to problem solve, with a creative flair. You can work independently and enjoy being part of an interdisciplinary and collaborative team. 

You are organised (i.e. good time management), have strong interpersonal skills and are able to communicate clearly with peers and stakeholders.  

Skills and experience required, includes:  

• Conceptual design capability to take projects from brief to concept and final art for digital and print projects 
• Demonstrated spatial awareness and the ability to conceptualise in 3D 
• Creating designs using a range of approaches, to effectively communicate the design idea 
• Ability to undertake site investigations and analysis and contribute to the development of a wayfinding strategy 
• Preparation of wayfinding elements including destination hierarchy, user needs analysis, visual language components, sign locations plans and messaging schedules 
• Creating graphics for reports and diagrams 
• Ability to work to a program with identified outputs and deadlines 
• Effective management of projects from start to finish including client liaison, presentations and coordination with sub-consultants and contractors 
• Advanced Illustrator and InDesign skills as well as other Adobe Creative Cloud programs and Microsoft Office 
• Signage Documentation skills using CAD Tools or similar is advantageous 
• Understanding of materials and construction methods and ability to read architectural documentation is desirable 
• A degree in Visual Communication, Industrial Design or other relevant design discipline advantageous.
