  • Salary (Level 5): $89,898 to $93,906 per annum (FTE) inclusive of annual leave loading plus superannuation
  • A primary condition of employment in this role is that you maintain or are committed to gaining status as an Accredited Professional as a Level 2 or 3 Building Surveyor as defined under the Accredited Professional Scheme under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.

Your role and responsibilities 

You will contribute to the City Development department’s responsibilities to ensure that development within the City is of a high quality, standard and function, and achieves a high level of consistency with statutory requirements; and to assist in the achievement of a high quality of urban design and amenity for residents, workers and visitors to the City.

As the Development Officer - Building you will provide high quality building assessment and compliance services, including the processing of development applications. You will strive for excellence and deliver quality outcomes for the community whilst modelling the organisation’s vision and values.

As one of our Building Team, you will:

  • Provide high quality building assessment and compliance services
  • Undertake assessment of development applications, inspection of properties and compliance meeting statutory requirements with a degree of independence
  • Provide a high level of quality customer service to applicants, internal departments, stakeholders, other agencies
  • Educate and advise the public and industry on matters relating to development within the City of West Torrens
  • Identify, develop and deliver on value adding services in the Building Team

Your capabilities, qualifications and experience

If you enjoy solving problems, know how to build relationships, have great verbal and written communication skills and know how to set work priorities and meet deadlines, you could be a great addition to our City Development, Building Team.

You must have the following essential qualification(s) and accreditation:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying or equivalent tertiary qualification.
  • Accredited Professional - Building Level 2 or 3 as defined under the Accredited Professional scheme under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.
  • Current White Card.

Current accreditation as a Building Surveyor Limited (Level 2 or 3) by the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors is desirable and would be highly regarded.

In addition, in accordance with the requirements of this role, a National Police Clearance (within six months of issue) and a current Class C Driver's Licence will be required as part of the recruitment process.  

Note: The CWT is a COVID-19 vaccinated workplace, so if successful in gaining employment with the CWT you will be required to provide evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status indicating you have received your two primary doses (or three primary doses if immunocompromised) or alternately your SA Health approved vaccination exemption.
