Salary- APS 5: $78,928 - $88,655; APS 6: $88,663 - $100,130 (plus 15.4% super)

- ongoing, permanent positions; full-time or part-time hours; flexible working arrangements
The positions are at both the APS 5 and APS 6 classification levels. The successful applicants can work either full-time or part-time hours from any of our capital city locations, although a hybrid model of working from home and the office applies.
About the role
We are looking to fill several DevOps Engineer positions within the DevOps and Systems Lifecycle enablement domains of the Business Analysis, Testing and DevOps Section. The role of these teams at the ABS focuses on providing the optimal CI/CD tools, methods and capabilities to support modern solutions development, ensuring productivity and efficiency for our development teams.
Responsibilities include:
- actively monitor and respond to DevOps related ticket incidents and requests, applying IT Service Management good practice
- onboard GitLab projects, helping teams to migrate to GitLab using established approved DevOps templates/patterns
- liaise with partners and vendors to resolve critical issues, as well as using their expertise to make informed design and implementation decisions
- contribute to team health by supporting other team members in daily work activities, encourage peer learning activities
- apply Infrastructure as Code for maintaining and monitoring our existing infrastructures
- being curious and continually looking for opportunities for self- improvement and research
- maintain an awareness of broader Technology and Security Division strategies and initiatives, assisting the team lead in taking necessary steps to ensure alignments.
- utilise effective DevOps skills to work autonomously and lead in an environment of ambiguity and change
- coach and mentor junior staff
- promote Infrastructure as Code, seek opportunities to improve operational health of DevOps related tooling in areas such as availability, performance, security and efficiency.
To be suitable you should have most of the following skills, qualities and experience:
1. ICT technical skills, or proven ability to learn key technologies and technical practices such as:
- DevOps CI/CD pipeline development and automation experience; GitLab experience is desirable
- Infrastructure as Code experience selecting one from CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform
- experience with Cloud services (AWS, Azure) and containerisation technologies (Docker)
- basic programming experience, e.g., in Java, JavaScript, .NET, Python
- scripting experience: Bash and/or PowerShell
- some understanding of database platforms, eg: MySQL, Oracle, Postgres.
- well-developed communication, problem solving and organisational skills
- ability to build and maintain productive working relationships
- ability to work independently and act collaboratively as a team member (in co-located and distributed settings).
In addition, at the APS 6 level we are also looking for:
- a proven ability to lead the delivery of complex technical projects.
