The APS Academy was established in July 2021 and is designed to support the broader APS learning ecosystem as a whole in building capability for all APS employees. The Academy plays an important role in setting overall shared direction for capability development and developing enablers and supporting platforms to support a genuine One-APS approach to capability building and driving efficiencies. The Academy operates a networked model, allowing us to use our strong partnerships to connect us to existing expertise and domains of excellence across the APS. Collaboration is the foundation of the APS Academy's networked model and is a critical element to the Academy's ongoing success.
About the team
The Academy Performance and Projects team has two important and strategic functions in the Branch:
- Delivery of projects that support the strategic objectives of the APS Academy. Examples of this work include projects supporting system-wide innovation in capability development such as the APS Reform initiative of the Capability Reinvestment Fund.
- Building partnerships and relationships across the learning and development ecosystem for APS capability uplift and APS-wide system benefit. Examples of this work include partnering with departments/agencies to identify, share and scale capability offerings in domains of excellence, and learning from/sharing expertise on public sector capability development through engagement with agencies, academia, international counterparts.
The Director, Academy Performance and Projects, leads a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team and brings a passion for innovation and transformation. This role is responsible for identifying, designing and delivering priority projects that advance the APS Academy's strategic objectives, support APS reform initiatives and make a positive impact on the APS learning ecosystem.
Establishing new, and fostering existing relationships, with a wide range of stakeholders is essential to the success of the role, with partnerships across our network and in the broader Asia and Pacific critical to delivering modern and practitioner-led learning solutions.
Working closely with colleagues, this role drives the delivery of governance functions and take a continuous improvement mindset to advancing the Academy's operations.
As a leader within the Commission, the Director is expected to be committed to and model the APS Values and the Secretaries' Charter of Leadership Behaviours at all times.
The key duties of the position include
- Leading agile project management methodologies and techniques to manage the design and delivery of priority Academy projects.
- Developing and managing productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, to advance a networked model of learning across the APS.
- Delivering governance functions for the branch, including corporate reporting and monitoring of APS reform initiatives.
- Working collaboratively with others and negotiating to ensure successful outcomes across the Academy.
- Manage a small team to deliver outcomes and achieve results. With some agile project work, secondees may increase the regular team size.
