Regional Development - part of the Department of Regional NSW, are looking a Director to join the Regional Coordination and Delivery to be Director for the Central Coast region.
In this role you’ll be responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership in developing and delivering a successful vision and agenda for the region in partnership with local government, state agencies, businesses, and the local community. You will take charge of the design, delivery and coordination of economic development activity and community initiatives in partnership with your key stakeholders.
The role runs point on regional issues, providing reliable, interpretive, evidence-based advice, submissions, propositions and reports to Ministers, NSW government and other key stakeholders on economic and social issues. You will also be proactive in providing oversight to enable Aboriginal Economic Development initiatives partnership with Local Aboriginal Land Councils and Aboriginal Businesses.
You will foster strong stakeholder relationships with key community groups and leaders to share information, progress initiates and solve challenging issues. Some key stakeholders you will collaborate with may include the NSW Cross-Border Commissioner, NSW government regional leaders, government leaders from neighbouring jurisdictions, executives and senior influencers in the private sector, not for profit and university stakeholders, and local and Australian government representatives.
To be successful you’ll need to:
- Ensure a strong focus on delivering best in class regional-based leadership and management at a senior level, delivering results in a complex political environment
- Employ your in-depth knowledge and understanding of the environmental, political, social and economic issues facing governments, agencies and communities in regional NSW and in your region.
You’ll be someone who can:
- Operate with a high level of autonomy and be fully and directly accountable for the advice you provide to all levels of government and stakeholders;
- Develop programs to drive the delivery of services within the region, driving priority programs and initiatives to enable community and economic growth and respond to critical and emerging issues;
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of government strategies and priorities, and be across key regional issues and variances, so you can articulate appropriate and effective ways of delivering state-wide initiatives suitable for your region’s unique characteristics; and
- Understand and operate within government decision making systems and processes across a geographically dispersed workforce to ensure key programs, initiatives and projects are delivered and targets are met.
You’ll also need:
- Tertiary qualifications in business administration, regional development, resource management, business management or equivalent industry experience, with an understanding of management and government processes
- Extensive background in successfully managing a disperse team in the public, private or NFP sector, including the management of substantial projects and programs with an appreciation of issues relating to rural and regional NSW.
Please note:
This role requires regular travel across your region, and to Sydney from time to time.

- Improving regional service delivery, including cross border communities.
The Regional Development team also plays a key role in supporting local infrastructure restoration and business, industry and tourism recovery from natural disasters.
