About the NSW Crime Commission
The NSW Crime Commission is established to prevent, disrupt and reduce the incidence of organised crime and other serious crime
and to pursue confiscation of the proceeds of crime.
The function of conducting confiscations and providing legal services is assigned to the Commission’s Legal Services and Confiscations Division under the leadership of the Executive Director Legal and Confiscations. The Commission’s Confiscations function and practice manages responsibilities under the Criminal Assets Recovery Act 1990 and the Crime Commission Act 2012 principally relating to the confiscation of the proceeds of crime and recovery of assets derived from crime.
About the Role
This is a newly created and integral role tasked with providing strategic leadership, direction and management of the Commission's confiscations and forensic accountancy functions. Reporting directly to the Executive Director Legal & Confiscations, the role leads the undertaking of complex confiscation and forensic accountancy measures in accordance with legislation, accountancy standards, and, Commission policies, procedures, strategies and guidelines.
In this role you will be empowered to provide influential and authoritative expert advice, counsel and guidance to the Executive Director Legal & Confiscations and key stakeholders regarding all aspects of confiscation and forensic accountancy matters, including identification and analysis of potential risks and financial outcomes. You will also represent the Commission in increasingly complex settlement negotiations with defendants. As a key member of the Commission’s senior management team, you will lead and direct the strategic and operational confiscation capabilities of the Commission inclusive of joint investigations with partner agencies whilst also championing a culture of continuous improvement and ethical, transparent decision-making.
You must be a senior executive who is able to demonstrate significant leadership and management experience and the ability to operate holistically to achieve the best results for the Confiscations team and the Commission. The Commission is also looking for demonstrated experience in effectively leading, managing, coaching, guiding and mentoring individuals and teams in challenging work environments. This role may be the next challenge you have been striving towards if you have relevant tertiary qualifications and membership of a recognised professional accounting body (i.e. Chartered Accountant, Certified Practicing Accountant or equivalent) as well as demonstrated experience leading confiscations and/or financial investigations within an enforcement, regulatory or tax organisation.

Security Vetting

The Crime Commission Regulation 2022 under the Crime Commission Act 2012 stipulates that it is a condition of
employment at the Commission that a member of staff obtain and maintain:
- a security clearance issued by the Commissioner, and
- a security clearance issued by the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency that the Commissioner determines is necessary for the position
