Director Environment and Infrastructure, City of Stonnington

As a key part of the high-performing Executive team, the Director will act as a trusted advisor to the recently appointed CEO, setting the strategic direction and implementation of innovative initiatives and approaches to improve the infrastructure, health, conditions and sustainability of the City of Stonnington. The incumbent will shape and drive activities that relate to capital works, city operations, asset management, transport and parking, and climate sustainability and city greening.

• Work in partnership with all levels of Government, community and private sector to ensure that the physical infrastructure of the City enhances the quality of life for the community and its many visitors
• Lead the delivery of capital works, major projects, operations and maintenance programs, traffic and asset management and emergency management response functions
• Oversee city projects including strategy development, service development, service specification and tendering and contract management as determined by service needs and expectations
• Ensure that the city’s assets are sustainably managed by developing, implementing, monitoring and improving Asset Management Plans, policies, processes and procedures (including all buildings, plant, structures, features and materials managed and maintained by Council with a primary focus on Infrastructure Assets)
• Create a safe and inclusive culture that genuinely invests in our people’s wellbeing, growth and development.

We are seeking applications from candidates who can bring a fresh perspective and a visionary approach, looking outside the mould of traditional local government services to challenge stereotypes and reimagine the way that we serve our community. The successful candidate will be someone who will embrace Council's customer driven transformation initiatives and foster a strong customer service culture, championing technology-led innovation, as well as driving best practice in risk management and project management methodologies to contribute to the overall success of Council initiatives.

Applicants will require significant experience in diverse Senior Management and Executive roles, a strategic mindset, strong people management skills, and both practical and technical knowledge of this area. Relevant tertiary qualifications in an asset discipline such as civil engineering, building or project management will be expected and post graduate qualifications in management or business would be highly regarded.

Experience in working with diverse and exacting community groups, an approach which is inclusive of community engagement and demonstrated experience in managing complex and large cross-functional projects and influencing key stakeholders will all be of critical importance.
