Biosecurity Plant and Science Services Division provides a contemporary, responsive, intelligence-led and science-based plant biosecurity system that protects Australia's plant health status. The work of the division supports agricultural productivity, competitiveness and market access for plant and plant products imports and exports. The division pursues new market access for Australian exporters, particularly opportunities arising from finalised free trade agreements. The division conducts plant pest and disease risk analyses, develops and implements risk mitigation measures and works collaboratively to strengthen Australia’s plant pest prevention, preparedness and response capabilities both within Australia and regionally. The Division also houses the Department's scientific services group and Post Entry Quarantine facility.
The Biosecurity Plant Strategy and Coordination section provides strategic leadership, coordination and business management functions to drive a high performing Division and facilitates budget processes to ensure the Division is well placed to deliver against government priorities. The Job
The successful applicant will play a key role in working with their team and internal and external stakeholders to support continuous improvement of the plant biosecurity system. In the light of current increasing biosecurity risks, increasing trade and climate change impacts, the Division is introducing reforms needed to address threats facing Australian agriculture and the environment, and look for innovative and sustainable ways to continue to support the biosecurity system.
This is an opportunity for a creative and strategic thinker to join a dynamic and motivated Division. Key duties could include but aren’t limited to;
- Driving and coordinating strategic Divisional budget processes including shaping the Division’s approach to government funding and cost-recovery
- supporting internal and external committees and working groups
- driving and coordinating Divisional coordination and reform activities to optimise our business model
- establishing and supporting constructive and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders including Ministers’ offices, other areas of the department, Commonwealth, state and territory agencies, industry representatives and Indigenous and community groups
- developing written products of a high standard that include timely and considered advice such as briefings, papers, and reports.
We are seeking applicants with some or all of the following:
- Experience in developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships to achieve positive outcomes.
- Experience in policy development, program implementation, new policy proposal development and Cabinet processes.
- Experience in working under pressure and ability to work to critical deadlines, take initiative and exercise sound judgment.
