The IJM Australia Advancement Office was established in 2014 to fuel IJM’s global mission by mobilising Australians’ resources and influence to protect people living in poverty from violence.

The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50% and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence by 2030, we are seeking a Director of Marketing & Communications to design and execute high-impact strategy, campaigns and content to rapidly propel awareness and understanding of IJM’s vision, mission and programs.

This position is based in Sydney, Australia and reports to Chief Executive Officer, Australia.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

• Model IJM’s values and staff care standards to ensure a healthy and strong team and office environment.

• Lead, develop and manage the Marcomms team by setting clear strategy, priorities, KPIs and outcome evaluations.

• Contribute to setting and monitoring the Marcomms department budget (expenses and revenue)

• Supervise and coach Marcomms team members to attain individual and team objectives and KPIs.

• Collaborate with leaders across Australia, Regional and Global Partnerships, Advocacy and IT, to ensure strong alignment and execution of organizational goals, priorities and efficiencies.

• Align with Partnerships & Advocacy/Grants teams to ensure MarComms is providing excellent, timely and results-based content and messaging for all of IJM’s target audiences, directly contributing to increased donor acquisition and retention.

• Represent IJM Australia’s MarComms team and priorities to IJM’s Regional and Global Resources communities of practice to align on shared resources, campaigns and messaging.

Strategy & Knowledge Development & Implementation

• Be a primary steward of IJM’s public brand in Australia, providing guidance and tools to all IJM Australia staff and partners to ensure clear brand use and replication.

• Collaborate with Global, Regional and local leaders to set and contextualize IJM Australia’s Marcomms strategy and annual strateigc plans.

• Develop Marcomms’ annual calendar to support Fundraising and Advocacy/Grants objectives and ensure we meet fundraising targets throughout the year; ensure clarity and alignment on key MarComms activities.

• Maintain cutting edge knowledge of Marketing and communications in fundraising and development, DFAT grant mandates for non-profit communication standards, and how to reach new impact investor markets through marketing and communications.

Networking & Partnership

• Directly contribute to the acquisition, retention and development of IJM donors and advocates by supporting the Partnerships and Advocacy/Grants teams with relevant messaging and content, in addition to carrying out an effective website, campaigns, and other social media communications plan.

• Manage day-to-day relationships with external agencies and suppliers in relation to marketing, communications and events.

• Provide advice and suggestions on external marketing partnerships and public relations opportunities to amplify organizational goals and mission.

Communication

• Proactively and effectively communicate with the Country Director and other department leaders to drive organizational goals and accountability.

• Create and maintain IJM Australia marketing assets, materials library, website and social media for effective storytelling, campaigns, and engagements that directly result in increased donor acquisition and retention.

• Conduct regular check-ins with direct reports and volunteers to ensure healthy employee engagement.

• Proactively connect, cultivate and maintain relationships with MarComms counterparts in other IJM Regions, Country Offices, and at Global Resources, to facilitate efficiencies, sharing and collaboration.

Documentation, Reporting & Data Management

• Ensure timely updates of accurate data by the Marcomms department in Salesforce.

• Submit regular reports to the Country Director and Regional/Global Communications team.

• Monitor and track key marketing metrics to measure and ensure effective ROI of campaigns and activities.

• Ensure correct data reporting to support accurate monitoring and reporting by the finance department.

• Utilize Customer Relationships Management data and trends as well as market research/business intelligence data to develop value adding Marcomms plans and activities.

Events and Logistics

• Ideate, plan, and successfully manage marketing or public relations events to grow IJM’s brand awareness, acquisition and retention of supporters, partners and donors.

• Leverage and capitalize on any IJM events or marketing campaigns by other IJM country offices.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing / Business or a related discipline.

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in marketing, communications, and branding, within a fundraising non-profit preferred.

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a people managerial position.

• A strong track record in developing and implementing marketing strategy to achieve tangible outcomes.

• Demonstrated success in using Marketing & Communications as an effective tool to attain fundraising goals.

• Demonstrated strong leadership capacity in management positions, including performance management of team members.

• Excellent writing, editing, presentation and research skills.

• Strong ability to gather and analyze data to measure marketing and fundraising success metrics.

• Proven track record of fundraising through marketing channels and strategic partnerships.

• Experience in the design and delivery of customer journey.

• Experience using Salesforce to support marketing strategy.

• MarTech experience and knowledge.
