THE POSITION:
The Major Events Director designs, plans, delegates, seeks necessary development and activity approvals. In addition, this role promotes and leads the delivery and post evaluation of Council’s Major Events program: “Cabramatta Lunar New Year” and “Cabramatta Moon Festival” in Cabramatta Town Centre; an annual event in the Fairfield City Centre; a Youth Week event; and a New Year’s Eve event branded as Illuminate held at the Fairfield Showground.
The position manages Council’s small Major Events Team, providing leadership through a constructive workplace culture and undertakes regular performance monitoring and management to ensure team engagement, development and success.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Do you have experience in the hands-on delivery and execution of Major Events and festivals for local communities? Do you have an eye for detail and a track record of partnering with others to deliver important community events?
If yes, then come and lead the Major Events team at our Cabramatta office. You will be in the centre of an extraordinary city, the place from which you’ll deliver two of a number of Major Events: Cabramatta Lunar New Year and the Cabramatta Moon Festival that attracts 60,000 plus visitors on event day.
We are seeking an experienced professional who can work at both a strategic and operational level to deliver our diverse Major Events. This is a hands-on role and would suit someone who thrives in high-pressure situations (in the lead up to event day), and takes pride and ownership in delivering safe and well-run events.
ESSENTIAL:
Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualifications in Events Management or equivalent demonstrated experience in delivering a calendar of community based Major Events.
Knowledge:
- Developing event themes, timelines (delegating of tasks and accountabilities) and production schedule (timing of event day) that considers: budget and financial management; logistics inclusive of traffic management, crowd control and waste management; approval pathways and required supporting documentation; marketing and promotion; procurement; sponsorship; stakeholder feedback; public liability and risk management; and workplace health and safety.
- Managing negotiations with suppliers according to budget; logistics and supplier contract compliance according to risk and safety obligations and managing operational risks including of WH&S considerations; timely communication and approvals with emergency services.
Skills:
- Constructive and inclusive interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with a range of stakeholders including direct reports, internal stakeholders, events related contractors including performers, media, and small business within a culturally and linguistically diverse community.
- Proficiency in adapting to corporate computerised systems such as asset and accounting systems combined with experience in all Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) including email and internet as well as databases;’ proficiency in Social Media and graphic design so as to instruct and guide actions by others.
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in delivering a calendar of community based Major Events with political savvy inclusive of leading a team with responsibilities to manage contractors, suppliers, performers, service providers and stakeholders responsible for approvals processes.
- Leading an events team with proven track record of delegating, monitoring, meeting deadlines, demonstrating the ability to apply Equal Employment Opportunity, Work Health and Safety and ethical practice principles ensuring fairness, inclusion, safety, probity and integrity.

SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- Permanent position, 35 hours per week
- This position is a Grade 8, salary range is $107,405 p.a. with progression to $118,555 p.a. on demonstrated competencies, with performance progression to $125,812 p.a. plus superannuation
