About the Role
This is a fixed term SES 1 role
As the Director of Public Affairs, you will lead the Public Affairs division within the Department, driving a cohesive and strategic approach to managing public issues, supporting ministerial communications, nurturing external partnerships, and enhancing internal communications. Your role will be instrumental in proactively addressing and managing public issues, ensuring the department's response is strategic and unified in the face of challenges and opportunities.
Effective leadership is fundamental to this position, as you will provide comprehensive communications support to ministerial activities while ensuring alignment of messaging with departmental goals and government objectives. Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, agencies, and partners to advance the department's objectives will also be a key responsibility.
As a member of the wider communications leadership group within the Department of Transport and Planning, you will play a crucial role in fostering an organisational culture characterised by high performance and inclusiveness. Leading by example, you will actively uphold and model the department's values, contributing to its overall success and reputation.
Position Outcomes
We are seeking an individual who can devise a holistic strategy for managing Public Affairs and enhancing media reputation for our department. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the effective implementation of these strategies, providing expert guidance and support to departmental leadership and Ministerial offices. Collaboration with senior leadership to support strategic planning and priority delivery will be a key aspect of this role.
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to revolutionise internal communications within the department. This will involve leading the development of innovative internal communication strategies and implementing a business partner model to facilitate the successful delivery of internal communication and engagement initiatives. As an integral part of our team, you will play a vital role in shaping our department's communication landscape and fostering a culture of collaboration and transparency.

- Tertiary qualifications in Public Relations or a related discipline would be highly regarded.
