 About National Parks and Wildlife Service

National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) is one of the world’s oldest and most respected National Parks agencies.  We manage more than 890 National Parks and reserves, covering over 7.6 million hectares or 9.5% of the landmass of NSW ranging from rainforests and towering eucalypt forests to rich woodlands, spectacular deserts and precious alpine systems.

We deliver effective conservation for our biodiversity and cultural heritage and provide world class visitor experiences for the whole community to enjoy. We carry out fire management, threatened species conservation, land and infrastructure management, sustainable tourism and visitation, and research and education programs. We work together with Aboriginal communities to manage and protect our parks on behalf of the people of NSW.

About You

The Director South Coast Branch is responsible for the coordination and delivery of operational management of National Parks across the Southern Coastal region of NSW. Stretching from Wollongong to Eden and the Victorian border, the NSW South Coast portfolio covers incredibly beautiful walks, waterfalls and Wildlife, as well as, white sandy beaches, rainforests and untamed coastline.  

You will be a proven leader who has exceptional people management, interpersonal, organisational and contentious issue management skills. You will have previous management experience, leading a multidisciplinary team within a protected area system environment or related field with a focus on leadership and service delivery and effectiveness. As part of your responsibilities, you will work closely with two Aboriginal Joint Management Boards, so your previous experience communicating, collaborating and negotiating successfully with external stakeholders will be important in this role.   

You will develop, implement and review regional strategic, operational and business plans in line with organisational priorities, whilst representing NPWS within the community and the region by establishing effective stakeholder partnerships, participation and engagement for programs or service delivery that affects the region. 

Essential Requirements

 Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent relevant experience in natural and cultural heritage management including operations management, wildlife management and incident and emergency management.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a large, multi-faceted operational workforce.
