Tasks & responsibilities
- The role of a Disability Support Worker (DSW) is crucial in providing assistance and care to individuals with disabilities, promoting their independence, and enhancing their overall quality of life. Here is a general list of tasks and responsibilities for a Disability Support Worker:
- Client Support: Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and meal preparation. Provide physical assistance as needed, such as lifting and transferring clients.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with clients, their families, and healthcare professionals. Maintain clear and accurate records of client interactions, progress, and any changes in health or behaviour.
- Personalized Care: Develop and implement individualized care plans based on the unique needs and goals of each client. Foster a person-centered approach, respecting the preferences and choices of clients in their daily routines.
- Emotional Support: Provide emotional support and companionship, fostering a positive and trusting relationship with clients. Recognize and respond to the emotional well-being of clients, offering encouragement and reassurance.
- Administer medication and help with health monitoring under the guidance of healthcare professionals. Support clients in accessing community activities, appointments, and social events.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other members of the support team, including healthcare professionals, therapists, and social workers, to provide holistic care.
- Health and Safety: Ensure the safety and well-being of clients by following health and safety protocols. Maintain a clean and organized living environment for clients.
