About the Role

The purpose of this role is to lead, coach and develop a team of litigation specialists, and ensure customers receive timely and effective responses to their workers compensation claims disputes received internally and externally including pre-litigation and Litigation.

Duties

It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same; as a Dispute Resolution and Litigation Leader you will:

  • Manage and respond to requests for internal review by an insurer of liability decisions on workers compensation claims.
  • Manage and respond to applications to resolve a dispute before the Personal Injury Commission and other litigation before the Courts.
  • Drive successful outcomes and avoid unnecessary disputes.
  • Use and update the relevant claims management and customer relationship systems.
  • Ensure compliance with legislated timeframes and actuarial targets
  • Stay informed on decision-making trends and educate teams on emerging issues in pre-litigation and Litigation matters
  • Research and prepare position papers for scheme-wide policy decisions and regulatory changes
  • Foster external relationships to support icare's business model and anticipate potential impacts
  • Participate in customer experience programs and collaborate with other icare streams to achieve business objectives

 Skills & Experience

  • Admission as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of NSW with an unrestricted practising certificate.
  • In-depth knowledge of workers' insurance legislation and a strong grasp of the NSW workers' insurance scheme operation
  • Outstanding skills in relationship management, interpersonal communication, and leadership
  • An open-minded and consultative approach
  • Creative problem-solving abilities
  • Adaptability to customize communications and approach according to the specific customer, be it an individual or a representative of a company
  • Passionate about delivering high-quality service and achieving positive outcomes for customers, with a focus on empathy
