Job description

The Women's Trauma Recovery Center is looking for a Domestic Family Sexual Violence (DFSV) Case Worker to work closely with our Therapeutic Support Team Leader, to provide specialist Domestic Family and Sexual Violence case management to support the recovery and healing of women from Domestic Family Sexual Violence.

Reporting to the Therapeutic Support Team Leader the DFSV Case Worker, will be responsible for supporting client case plans for the Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop effective working relationships and collaborative partnerships with external service providers and government agencies with a focus on primary health care, recovery, and healing in the DFSV sector.
  • Develop, implement, support, and evaluate individual client-centred case plans in partnership with women impacted by DFSV.
  • Responsible for carrying out day-to-day tasks associated with the provision of case plans such as providing case management to victims of DFSV with complex social and legal needs including referral assistance, risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy, support in attending Court as well as other services. 
  • Support and empower clients to take ownership of and action their case plans. 
  • Assist with client intake and exit planning. 
  • Provide support to individuals and families impacted by DFSV based on client-centred, recovery-focused trauma-informed principles and practices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals across the organisation including program managers and lived experience participants with a focus on supporting and advocating for women impacted by DFSV.
  • Contribute to internal policy development, service planning and evaluation. 
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and reports in client care, conducted in line with the Centre’s policies, procedures, and legal obligations.
  • Attend and engage in administration supervision (internal) and reflective spaces held by the WTRC (internal).
  • Comply with legal requirements relevant to the position including responsibility for maintaining current registration to practice as required by professional associations and applicable legislation.
  • Participate in advocacy efforts related to domestic, family, sexual violence, women's mental health and trauma recovery as identified in the Centre’s Advocacy Strategy. 

Essential Criteria for the role:

  • A genuine interest in, and commitment to Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre's vision, mission, and values.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications including Community Work, Social Work, Welfare or Counselling or related discipline. 
  • Experience working with families impacted by Domestic Family Sexual Violence.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a flexible, trauma-informed and client-centred approach to service delivery.
  • Experience effectively managing difficult situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, plan and prioritise workload, and show initiative.
  • Critical self-reflection in relation to race, privilege, and power.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate individualised client-centred care plans in partnership with women impacted by DFSV.
  • Knowledge of and experience using a trauma and violence-informed approach, including for the delivery of casework.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. 
  • Proven ability to confidently interact with stakeholders. 
  • Well-practiced interpersonal skills and capacity to interact with staff at all levels and work effectively as part of a team. 

Desirable criteria for the role:

  • Experience working with people from diverse communities or lived experience of diversity including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, LQBTQIA+, migrant, culturally and linguistically diverse, neurodivergent and people with a disability.
  • Fluency in a community language other than English.
  • Demonstrated understanding of contemporary family, domestic and Sexual Violence, and the trauma impacts of gendered-based violence and abuse. 
  • Experience working in feminist not-for-profit organisations and/or social enterprise.
  • Experience advocating for and promoting gender equality and women’s rights.
