DRIVER TRAINER

Don Watson Transport is a leading refrigerated logistics company offering a diverse range of transport and refrigerated storage solutions. We are currently looking to employ a Driver Trainer in our Derrimut Depot. This role is a full-time salary-based role, Monday to Friday, with requirement to be available on weekends where required.
With primary responsibility for the assessment, selection, induction, and training of Drivers (new and established), and to ensure Drivers understand and comply with all Health and Safety requirements including compliance with Fatigue Management and Safe Driving Principles and Protocols.
The role is also responsible for understanding the supply and demand of labour resources (Drivers -including Local, Interstate, Shuttle and Casual) and to work with Managers and other teams to meet operational requirements. This position will act as a communication point for all Drivers within the business with a key focus on Melbourne.
Principal Tasks and Accountabilities
- Identify required labour resources (Drivers) for efficient and effective business operations
- Interviewing and assessing the competency of candidates for Truck Driving positions
- Orientating new employees (focus on drivers) to the organization through the structured induction processes
- Ensuring all drivers are aware and are compliant with company policies and procedures and assist the company to maintain current and new accreditations ie TruckSafe, NHVAS etc.
- Monitor Drivers to ensure compliance with Fatigue Management and Safe Driving Principles and Protocols
- Liaise with the Compliance Department to ensure on-going Compliance with all required policies, procedures, acts, and regulations
- Liaise with other Departments to ensure a streamlined approach to new Drivers entering the business
To be successful in this role you will need to be action orientated, have strong communication skills with the ability to build solid relationships that produce engaged and committed people within our business.
Required Skills, Knowledge, & Experience
- Open MC License is mandatory
- Extensive experience in driving trucks (interstate will be highly regarded)
- Ability to lead and manage people and processes
- A strong understanding of Fatigue Management and Safe Driving Principles
- Refrigerated Transport experience would be an advantage
- Ability to establish and maintain strong and productive working relationships.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to achieve high quality results by taking a shared responsibility for setting priorities, organising workloads, and meeting prescribed or self-imposed deadlines.
- Good sense of humour with a positive outlook
Prior experience in a similar role is preferred.
