Job description

Location: Hybrid – World Square, CBD and WFH Commencement Date: Immediate or by negotiation Closing Date: Thursday, 4 April 2024 Capacity: Full time, Two year contract

About the role

Reporting to the Family Wellbeing and Education Manager/s, the Education Officer: Student and Family Wellbeing collaborates with students and their families, schools and Principals, helping to provide a supportive environment to students across the system. The role involves managing complex and/or sensitive case management processes providing an extensive understanding of Catholic Social Teaching. The Education Officer collaborates with school Principals to enhance pastoral care for individual students and their families, providing professional guidance on societal issues affecting children and young people

The main accountabilities of the Education Officer: Student and Family Wellbeing include but are not limited to:

  • responding proactively to the risks in Mental Health of children and young people through supportive strategies and the implementation of positive programs
  • liaising with a range of health care practitioners
  • leading the implementation of the Gender Dysphoria policy and procedures while delivering professional development on the policy’s intent and purpose
  • collaborating with school leadership teams in the development of Pastoral Care Plans
  • developing and providing regular reports  to the Executive Director
  • maintaining and reviewing comprehensive case documentation, policy and procedures
  • providing relevant and appropriate professional learning for the Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) community
  • promoting and supporting the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference document ‘Created and Loved: A guide for Catholic Schools on identity and gender’
  • researching trends in Family Wellbeing and Education to address parental needs and contributing insights for system programs and initiatives
  • monitoring relevant Federal and State Government legislation and policies along with their implications for Catholic Education, ensuring compliance with their respective requirements
  • reporting all concerns regarding child safety and allegations of inappropriate conduct to the line manager and the SCS Child Safety team. SCS is a child-safe environment and all concerns regarding child safety and allegations of inappropriate conduct will be treated seriously
  • promoting and implementing the Sydney Catholic Schools’ mission and vision ‘To know and love Christ through learning and Thriving Catholic communities through excellent teaching and learning’
  • any other duties as directed from time to time.

About you

To be successful in this position, you will have attained;

  • is a Baptised Catholic with demonstrated evidence of ongoing commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church and engagement in the life of a Catholic faith community such as a parish or an established community within the Catholic Church, as an expression of their relationship with Jesus Christ
  • university degree in Education, Teaching, Psychology or Social Work
  • minimum 5 years of supporting case management in schools
  • in depth knowledge of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1992 and DDA Standards for Education Providers (2005, 2011)
  • understanding and knowledge of the Gender Dysphoria criteria as outlined in the DSM-5
  • knowledge of NSW and Commonwealth investigative bodies, their functions and processes as they pertain to education
  • demonstrated experience in leading staff in professional learning
  • demonstrated success in implementing school wide initiatives
  • the ability to articulate contemporary societal educational trends in both local and international contexts
  • Willingness to respect, support and uphold the mission, ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of Sydney Catholic Schools.

Additionally, you are required to:

  • be a qualified and accredited teacher with NESA or appropriate registering body
  • operate at the Highly Accomplished or Lead level of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers or be fully registered clinicians.

Desirable

  • postgraduate degree in Education or another discipline
  • 5 years of middle leadership experience supporting a school or schools
  • current driver’s licence.
