Our Children in Residential Care (CIRC) program provide therapeutic education related support service for school-aged children and young people residing in Berry Street’s Northern Residential Care Program.
The team are committed to providing support to young people who may have become disengaged from mainstream education or experienced sustained periods of absence from school.
The best interests of children and young people will guide all decision-making when considering support options to ensure a tailored response. We provide flexible educational plans to allow for different learning styles and academic levels.
Key Responsibilities
The primary objectives of the role includes the following:
- Providing Education Support to young people aged 10-17 years old, that reside in Residential Care and who struggle with engaging mainstream education
- Assisting young people with access to appropriate education, training and employment services and pathways
- Positively engaging with high risk young people who have complex needs and behaviours
- Understanding the impacts of trauma, abuse and neglect on a young person's capacity to engage with education
- A tertiary qualification in Education or a Welfare related field (or you are currently studying).
- Experienced with working with young people with complex needs and the ability to achieve positive outcomes
- A sound knowledge of education delivery for young people with complex educational needs, including the implementation of Individual Learning plans
- Strong communicator with the capacity to be an interface between the education and welfare sectors
