About the company:
This firm provides engineering, drafting, visualisation and project management services specifically for the mining sector and have long standing relationships with all the major mining operators. Their areas of specialisation cover all engineering disciplines with a specific focus on underground and surface mine equipment infrastructure.
About the role:
There is an immediate opportunity for an Electrical Engineer who will form part of a team who are responsible for taking various client scopes from concept through to basic design, then hand over to the delivery team. You will be involved in designing electrical layouts, routs, power systems analysis, cable size, transformer size and switchgear rating. Additionally, you will scope up technical reports involving OEM specs to ensure the equipment meet the project requirements and Australian standards.
You will be based out of the corporate office in Brisbane and from time to time, you will travel to regional Qld or NSW to carry out site inspections, factory acceptance testing and interface with clients.
You will be responsible for:
- Equipment rating calculations (i.e. cable sizing. transformer sizing, switchgear rating)
- Applying your knowledge of Australia Standards, and cross referencing equipment specifications to ensure it complies
- Drafting basic concepts using AutoCAD (single line diagrams, schematics, etc.)
- and electrical drawings
- Writing detailed and concise technical reports, feasibility studies, proposals, including written responses and instructions as required during front end project phases.
- Coordinate with the inhouse drafting team to complete detailed diagrams in line with the scope of works.
- Development of suitable Scope of Works documentation for design and installation purposes.
- Actively promote, seek out and participate in a drive for continuous improvement.
It is also important that you have/can demonstrate:
- Degree-qualified Electrical Engineer that has been recognised by Engineers Australia
- Ideally RPEQ or a willingness to obtain it through the support of this firm.
- Gained experience both in design along with site installation.
- Exposure to SKM Powertools for Windows (i.e. load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash)
- Competency with project planning software, and have the ability to generate project plans and schedules.
- 3 + years’ experience working within a heavy industry.
- A sound knowledge and understanding of Australian Standards.
- Attention to detail, accuracy and ability to follow processes closely.
- A positive attitude, and ability to work as part of a supportive and harmonious team.
