About the role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Electrical Project Engineer to join our team for an exciting new project. The Electrical Project Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing the site installation of a new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) located near Rockhampton in Central Queensland.
This role requires strong technical expertise in electrical engineering, project management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with all project stakeholders.
The role will be initially based in Brisbane during the engineering phase and will transition to site for the construction works.
Responsibilities:
- Project Planning and Execution
- Planning and execution of the construction phase of the BESS facility
- Development of Construction Work Packs for site use
- Development of the project schedule, execution plans and procedures.
- Cost estimating and forecasting
- Management of change
2. Technical
- Oversee the installation, testing and commissioning of electrical equipment and systems
- Provide technical expertise and guidance on electrical systems, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical engineering issues as they arise during project implementation
3. Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations
- Implement quality assurance processes to maintain high standards of workmanship
- Development of quality documentation for the project including Inspection Test Plans, Field Inspection Check Sheets, Inspection Test Records, and Non-Conformance Reports
- Conduct inspections and testing to verify system functionality and safety
4. Supplier and Contractor Management
- Prepare RFQs for suppliers and construction subcontractors to procure materials, equipment, and services
- Evaluate vendor proposals, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relationships
- Monitor sub-contractor cost and performance and resolve any issues or discrepancies
5. Risk Management and Problem Solving
- Participation in risk assessments and maintaining risk registers
- Identify potential risks and obstacles in project execution and develop mitigation strategies
- Proactively address technical challenges, deviations, and change requests
6. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including site drawings, reports, and correspondence
- Site time capture, daily progress reports, and presentations for stakeholders
- Compilation of as-built drawings and project quality records into a Manufacturer’s Data Record upon completion of the construction phase
Qualifications and skills required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Proven experience in project management, preferably in industrial or construction settings
- Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Problem-solving mindset and attention to detail
- Ability to manage workload, prioritize and manage deadlines
- Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (Electrical) qualification is desirable but not essential
