Simcoa Operations Pty Ltd, located near the port city of Bunbury approximately 200km south of Perth, operates Australia’s only Silicon Metal Smelter, incorporating a sawmill, high temperature charcoal plant, submerged electric arc furnaces, grinding plant, crushing and screening facilities and an off-gas filtration/fume collection baghouse. With a continuous usage of 70MW, we are one of Western Australia’s largest electrical consumers.
Simcoa is seeking an Electrical Technician / Instrument Fitter, who will be responsible for safely carrying out maintenance, installation, modification, testing, programming, and commissioning of the electrical, gas and instrument equipment and systems in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner. The position currently follows a 4-day/week roster, Monday to Friday, but applicants should be prepared to move to a 24/7 shift roster as required for operational needs.
In this position, you will be required to:
- Carry out electrical and instrument preventative and corrective maintenance activities efficiently and within the boundaries of Simcoa’s “Low Voltage Work Manual” at all times.
- Ensure that any high voltage work is carried out within the boundaries of Simcoa’s “High Voltage Work Manual” at all times.
- Trouble shooting / testing / commissioning, communication, project management
- Analyse faults and engage in initiatives to improve plant reliability, thus adding value in a multi-skilled production environment
- Understanding of risk mitigation, continuous improvement, manufacturing and procurement
- Comply with all legislative and company safety requirements
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:
- A current Western Australian Electrical Workers License
- Certificate 4 in instrumentation
- 2 to 5 years post trade experience in an industrial environment with exposure to instrumentation, PLCs and HV
- Industrial gas maintenance and safety (desirable)
- Demonstrated strong electrical breakdown fault finding skills
- Ability to think logically and be determined to work towards finding favourable solutions and outcomes regarding plant / safety requirements
- Strong problem solving ability
- Ability to make timely and sound decisions
- Clear and effective communication skills – written and oral
- Adaptable and flexible to changing conditions
