Employment Training Officer

Ebenezer Aboriginal Corporation is a passionate not-for-profit organisation that has supported local people for over 50 years. Our current services cover support to youth, families and adults. Ebenezer has been successful in expanding its employment program and is currently undergoing a full recruitment process for several roles. We are building the employment program from our strong cultural and historical service delivery.
About the role:
The Employment Training Officer role is one of 7 new roles in the expanded employment program. This role will support participants to gain understanding of what is required to remain outside the criminal justice system, how to prepare themselves for employment and how to retain employment. The training package developed by Ebenezer is built in Social and Emotional Wellbeing, along with practical tools. Delivery will include entering selected WA prisons as an official visitor.
Our core business is to prepare and support Aboriginal jobseekers who have recent engagement with the criminal justice system remain outside the justice system and to enter and remain in work.
The role requires creative training delivery and ability to work collaboratively with Aboriginal participants. The role will support others in the employment unit.
The role is supported by a team including Program Manager, service lead, employer engagement officer, jobseeker mentors and administration.
About you:
To be best prepared for the role you will have at least 3 years relevant work experience in the human services space. This is not a training role focussed on specific technical work skills, but more focussed on pre-employment and “soft” skills.
You will be able to work with a degree of autonomy, be a part of a team and keen to achieve outcomes.
You will have a strong understanding of local Aboriginal culture (preferably with Aboriginal identity).
You will have excellent networking skills, be confident negotiating with participants, have resilience when it comes to working in a caseload with complex needs, be able to motivate and guide people and have sound admin and document handling skills.
Essential Criteria:
1. Have at least 3 years working in human services training and development or a similar field.
2. Current “C” class automatic driver's licence.
3. Holding or willing to obtain a Working with Children’s Card, National Police Clearance and a Senior First Aid Certificate.
4. Have Certificate level or higher relevant qualifications, or extensive work experience.
5. Be self-motivated, have good communication and administration skills.
6. Be able to pass security restrictions enabling access to prisons as an official visitor.
Desirable Criteria:

2. Identify as Christian and/or demonstrated ability to uphold the values of the organisation.
3. Past personal experience, especially in a role negotiating directly with employers and/or motivating Aboriginal people within the employment industry.
