About the CompanyThe Mental Health Lived Experience Peak Queensland (MHLEPQ) is a member-based organisation for and by Queenslanders with a lived experience of mental ill-health and/or suicidality. MHLEPQ's role is to provide policy advice and system advocacy for, and with, consumers of the Queensland mental health system, and in particular those who are marginalised or disadvantaged. It operates on the principles of equity, access, cultural safety, recovery, and human rights.About the RoleUse your skills in community development, peer work, or outreach support to create opportunities for engagement with existing members and those individuals with a lived or living experience of mental ill-health and/or suicidality. As an Engagement Lead, you will be responsible for engagement and ongoing support of peer advocates and advisors, facilitating relevant discussions, contributing to various projects and programs, coordinating work groups, and sharing information as appropriate.While working closely with MHLEPQ members to facilitate and support their advice and advocacy, this role will also see you proactively engaging with other organisations in the sector to build relationships and identify appropriate opportunities to collaborate for collective impact.As this role sits within a small but collaborative team, naturally it will require a flexible approach as you will be required to assist with other projects or tasks to support the organisation to achieve its goals on behalf of its members.Duties and Responsibilities
  • Development of engagement and support structures for member engagement and outreach work
  • Identify new opportunities for engagement with diverse groups or individuals to contribute to future member engagement forums or discussions
  • Facilitate discussion amongst established groups or with individuals regarding their experience of the Queensland mental health system
  • Work closely with the Policy Director to collect and share information for the purpose of informing policy, position statements and advocacy documents
  • Maintain relationships, providing ongoing support and coordination for relevant groups and individuals
  • Engage with external stakeholder networks such as Queensland consumer mental health organisations
  • You will regularly be required to assist with other projects or tasks to support the broader team
Skills and Experience Required
  • Tertiary qualifications relating to community services or mental health peer work would be ideal, but not essential
  • Demonstrated prior experience in community development / community engagement, outreach and/or peer work
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills with the ability to facilitate group discussions
  • Flexible approach towards working in a newly established organisation with the ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Proactive and self-motivated, someone who can work autonomously as required to manage your own schedule
  • Collaborative and approachable working style with strong interpersonal skills
  • Additional skills or experience in communications would also be desirable
