Temporary Contract Role- 6-Month Contract-Local Council

The Engagement Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the Council is positioned as a high-profile, innovative and effective organisation. This position produces quality, effective communications and engagement plans and materials, and promotes authentic engagement practices. You will sit in a very supportive, high-performing team. Your manager will be there for guidance and training.
Your Role
- Establish constructive relationships with internal stakeholders to offer efficient communication and engagement guidance, and to support Council initiatives and events.
- Provide engagement advice on a range of complex social and community issues.
- Organise community involvement activities and events, guiding decision-making through the delivery of precise, prompt, and understandable information and resources.
- Collaborate as a member of the Communications and Engagement team and liaise with other Council departments to maintain professionalism in all communication and engagement materials, helping to draft materials.
- Based on engagement activities-you will need to update the council website and social media channels- updating the public etc on engagement activities.
- Guide and support the delivery of effective and comprehensive consultation techniques from project inception to post-project review.
- Your role will include community engagement face to face- i.e street walks/ engaging with business owners on recent construction updates/projects. You must have experience of doing this as genuine engagement work is essential.
- You will work on simple events within the community- you will be supported in this, but must be comfortable in doing so.
- Community consultation skills is necessary
Skills, knowledge and experience:
- Experience in a similar role-degree in communications or relevant
- Minimum 2–3 years experience in a community engagement facing role- dealing with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- High level competency in the application of IAP2 principles and experience in the facilitation of community engagement design, delivery and evaluation.
- Ability to engage with diverse communities of interest and to appreciate competing points of view.
- Must be enthusiastic and have good communication skills.
- Proven ability to assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of effective communication and community engagement strategies and events.
Desirable:
- Experience in a similar role within Government/ Local Council/ state gov or within construction/ development in the private sector
- An understanding of mail chimp/ campaign monitor/ your say is not essential but definitely a plus!
To Note:
- Need someone asap, so ideally you will be immediately available to start within the next 1–2 weeks.
- There will be out of office hours- i.e an event from 5.30-7.30. The council are very flexible, and you can make these hours up another day/ start later/ fishing earlier. It must be OK with this. It will not be all the time but, can occasionally happen.
- WFH available, 2 days at home, 3 days in the office.
