ENGINEERING MANAGER
OVERVIEW OF ROLE:
The engineering department provides the technical expertise and services required to ensure successful delivery of the projects. A Project Engineering Manager (PEM) will plan, co-ordinate and manage a technical team to deliver all ‘project’ work performed within Energy
The term ‘project’ work is used to describe studies and tenders as well as live projects. The resources and competence required to deliver the project will be provided by the Engineering Disciplines and agreed at the outset of the project between the relevant Discipline Managers and Project Engineering Manager.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible to Project Manager for delivery to project of all engineering requirements
- Manage the engineering resources and interfaces on a project to achieve successful delivery
- Interface with discipline leads and/or group leads to ensure deliverable schedule is being met and budget is on track.
- Ensure schedule of engineering is linked to procurement activities, package and fabrication supply.
- Manage and participate in technical audits of projects and studies.
- Responsible for ensuring that standard of engineering services provided complies with corporate standards and Client specifications along with appropriate legislation.
- Develop man-hour estimates and subsequent engineering schedule for implementation to suit overall project plan, taking responsibility for delivery.
- Promote and facilitate project team awareness of company QA and HSE procedures.
- Ensure that all procedures and methods of work developed have considered the safety of personnel and assets to minimise loss.
- Develop project Design Basis.
- Ensure all documents are checked and approved and have relevant circulations.
- Encourage awareness and reporting of variations to contract scope. Identify and quantify engineering changes to contract and assist in providing input to contracts manager for Variation Orders (VOs).
- Ensure engineering on the project team is effective and quality driven
- Agree and monitor performance objectives with direct reports
- Ensure that project teams maximise Group knowledge management tools.
- Actively engage in the project risk assessment and mitigation processes
Qualifications and Education
General Education:
Desirable: It is preferable for candidate to be degree qualified in Engineering or Marine discipline or alternatively HNC/HND plus appropriate experience.
Skills
Technical (including IT):
Essential: Candidate should be generally conversant with IT systems such as e-mail and internet, and capable of ustilising standard software packages such as MS Office (Excel/Word/Powerpoint etc) as may be required to facilitate written correspondence, reports and presentations.
Interpersonal:
Essential: Sound communication skills, oral, written and electronic.
Management:
Essential: Ability to lead a design team across multiple projects.
Ability to prioritise own and others’ workload, manage time and change control accordingly and direct team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of programme or budget.
Ability to manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client and suppliers.
Experience:
Essential: Candidates must have proven Subsea Engineering Experience working to a similar level.
Managerial Experience:
Essential: Experience of managing multi-discipline engineering input to projects or work packages.
Experience of client interfacing would also be an advantag
Knowledge:
Essential: Demonstrable ability to work within time/budget constraints
Ability to lead a design team across multiple projects.
