Job description

Calumino is a fast-growing hardware + A.I. startup with a disruptive and proprietary intelligent thermal sensor technology envisioning to become the world's largest thermal sensor company. Our sensors will be deployed everywhere, from smart homes to smartphones - enabling night vision for consumers and intelligent people activity detection to make things smarter while being 100% privacy-protecting.
We are backed by billionaire founders, and we have secured our Series A funding from one of the most reputable and renowned Silicon Valley deep-tech VCs.
Currently, we are ramping up manufacturing to cover the high demand from our innovative customers such as Mitsubishi Electric, ABB and KPN. We are a fast-growing team of 50+ passionate people and looking for exceptional talent to join our dynamic team.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technologist to join our fast-growing team. You will play a crucial role in the design, development, and optimisation of mechanical components and systems for Calumino Thermal Sensors. Your expertise will contribute to creating innovative and high-quality products that meet market demands and exceed customer expectations.
Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with R&D engineers to contribute to the design and development of thermal sensors technology performance.
  • Utilise CAD software to create detailed drawings and schematics for thermal sensor components.
  • Assist in the prototyping of thermal sensors and systems.
  • Conduct and analyse test and experiment outcomes to evaluate the performance, accuracy, and reliability of thermal sensors under different conditions.
  • Implement robust engineering solutions to calibrate thermal sensors to ensure accuracy and reliability in measuring temperature.
  • Validate sensor performance through testing and analysis, ensuring adherence to specifications.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues related to thermal sensors, including calibration problems or sensor drift.
  • Perform routine maintenance and preventive measures to ensure long-term sensor functionality.
  • Integrate thermal sensors into larger systems or products, working closely with optical, electronic and mechanical components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration with other technologies.
  • Analyse data collected by thermal sensors to draw conclusions about temperature patterns and trends.
  • Interpret thermal data for applications such as process optimisation, environmental monitoring, or product performance analysis.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including mechanical drawings, testing protocols, and performance specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of calibration results, testing outcomes, and sensor specifications.
  • Stay informed about industry standards and regulations related to thermal sensors.
  • Ensure that thermal sensing technologies comply with relevant safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement robust quality control measures to ensure that finished products meet Calumino's high-quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Stay updated on advancements in thermal sensing technology and industry trends.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities and certifications specific to thermal sensing.
  • Provide technical support to engineers, researchers, and other stakeholders using or implementing thermal sensing technologies.
Experience & Skills Required
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in mechanical design and development, preferably in the consumer electronics or industrial sensors industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, specifically SolidWorks, for 3D modelling and 2D drawings. Experience with a Product Data Management (PDM) system is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of thermal and structural analysis tools such as Solidworks Simulations, Ansys, COMSOL.
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes such as wafer scale manufacturing, precision bonding, optical glass moulding and SPDT is advantageous.
  • Experience in high-precision optical product/system design, tolerance analysis and statistical process control knowledge is advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Fluent verbal and written English and comfortable with technical terms.
We'd like you to get in touch if you are curious, ambitious, kind, disciplined and passionate to excel. We offer a high-impact role with tremendous growth potential at an emerging industry leader.
Our office is in South Eveleigh, near Redfern station, with the option to work from home one day a week. Salary range $60-80K + super based on experience.
If this role aligns with your passion and skills and you would like to be part of a dynamic team to contribute to the story of our company, please apply!
