About the positionThe Environmental Health team is seeking a highly motivated, team orientated individual who will make a valuable contribution to the public health environment of our community, by ensuring that we fulfill our statutory obligations in relation to the South Australian Public Health Act, Food Act, Local Nuisance and Litter Control Act and Supported Residential Facilities Act.
Reporting to the Senior Environmental Health Officer and Team Leader Environmental Health and Inspections, the successful candidate will have a strong commitment to providing quality professional services to the community, take a proactive, solutions focused approach to monitoring and enforcing our legislative responsibilities and be able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.
Key responsibilities are:
- Assess food businesses for compliance with food legislation in accordance with the Food Premises Inspection schedule as required.
- Audit food businesses that are included in the scope of Food Safety Standard 3.3.1.
- Investigate food complaints.
- Investigate complaints about cooling towers, warm water systems, offensive activities, pollution of water supplies, rodent and mosquito breeding, smoke and odours from wood heaters, head lice and other vermin infestations, domestic squalor, clandestine drub laboratories or any other health issue.
- Inspect public swimming and spa pools in accordance with the inspection schedule as required, and test water quality for compliance with legislation.
- Provide advice on stormwater pollution prevention and investigating illegal discharges of waste to public places and water supplies as required.
- Assist with licensing Supported Residential Facilities (SRF) in accordance with the SRF Act as required, by undertaking inspections and assessing facilities for compliance with the SRF Act.
Essential requirements:
- Relevant Environmental Health qualification
- Current driver’s license
- Willingness to undergo a preemployment medical

Salary range is between $85,553 - $96,944 plus superannuation guarantee and will be negotiated commensurate with skills, experience and qualifications.
