BC Ferries is embarking on an exciting transformation journey. As we seek to improve experiences for our customers and employees, and increase reliability while maintaining affordability, technology is a key enabler to this journey. We have an ambitious plan to improve our Technology Services that spans functional areas such as people & safety, enterprise asset management, customer experience, fleet & terminal operations and much more.
We are seeking an experienced IT expert with a strategic business mind to join our Senior IT Leadership team. You are not just an IT professional; you are a visionary leader who will be instrumental in strengthening current IT technology landscape, driving future technology transformation, and implementing efficiency and integration to Information Technology & Operational Technology operations to create a unified and efficient technological framework.
As part of the Senior IT Leadership team, you develop and implement long-term comprehensive technology transformation roadmap aligned with BC Ferries' business goals and objectives across all departments and functions. You establish and enforce best practices and standards for DevSecOps (Development, Security and Operations), architecture, IT security & compliance.
This role is crucial in fostering a culture of digital transformation, positioning BC Ferries at the forefront of technological advancement in the maritime industry. As an Executive Director, Technology Service, you foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration and accountability and lead people change as we prepare our people for supporting technology and business capabilities of the future.
The Role
Reporting to the VP and Chief Information Officer, you add value by key areas of oversight such as:
- Leading research and evaluation of emerging technologies, trends, and market opportunities to inform strategic decision-making
- Developing and implementing a comprehensive technology strategy aligned with BC Ferries’ business goals and objectives
- Assessing current state technology and IT capabilities, and defining priorities and roadmap for improvements in order to drive desired business outcome and reduce operating cost
- Establishing and enforcing best practices and standards for application development, architecture, security, release & change management and disaster recovery plans
- Implementing cloud architecture and foundation, and leading cloud assessment to determine cloud transition roadmap
- Advancing IT/OT collaboration and convergence through defining integration roadmap including data, security, compliance, interoperability and unified management
- Identifying training and upskilling needs for IT resources to transition to future state IT organizational structure and mandates
What you bring to the team
To be the right fit, you are an empowering leader – someone who is calm, strategic and tactical under pressure and who can see the big picture beyond daily issues. You are a relationship-builder with a proven track record in driving large-scale technological change initiatives.
You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, and/or Computer Science. A Master’s Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, and/or Computer Science or Master’s Degree in Business with a concentration in Information Technology Management is preferred. You bring 15+ years’ experience coaching and mentoring IT professionals, designing and implementing complex systems, products, software, and/or solutions and implementing a technology strategy.

Additional information
The target salary range: $197.600 - $247,000 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
