The Executive Director is responsible for leading and delivering strategic policy, program and project initiatives related to the Water Act 2000. This includes the Rural Water Futures Program (RWF), which delivers the Queensland Government's response to the Independent Audit of Queensland Non-urban Water Measurement and Compliance, and the Murray-Darling Basin Water Compliance Review. Policy and project outcomes will transform Queensland's approach to sustainable water resource management. This role leads significant change and reform across the rural water business, supporting contemporary resource management and sustainable use of our precious water resources.
This role supports the Deputy Director-General and the Director-General by identifying and responding to strategic risks, building strong effective relationships, and representing Queensland in national, state and local forums.
- Develop and implement strategic policy, program and project initiatives related to the Water Act 2000 including to directly deliver on the Government's response to the Independent Audit of Queensland Non-urban Water Measurement and Compliance, and the Murray-Darling Basin Water Compliance Review.
- Delivery of a multi-year program involving complex ICT enabled business transformation, developing and implementing a replacement Water Management Information System in partnership with the Department's service delivery, digital capability teams, delivery partner, and the Information Technology Partnerships division in the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
- Deliver the foundational policy framework for a modern water accounting framework and responsive online public information platform to provide transparency, and support both customers and departmental decision making, including leading a stakeholder consultation program to facilitate development of new policy proposals for Government consideration in 2024-2025.
- Deliver operational policy and procedures for the implementation of the Water Act 2000, including process improvements to support the Rural Water Futures program and business as usual activities across the whole range of water management decision making,
- Lead improvements to the Water Act 2000 framework for driving more transparent and sustainable rural water management across the state.
- Provide high level strategic advice and analysis for the Minister, Director-General and Deputy Directors-General, and other stakeholders on major strategic issues or risks, emergent and sensitive issues.
- Ensure the development and promotion of an integrated, diverse and flexible organisation in line with corporate strategic planning and performance targets, as well as responsibility for budget and resource management.
- Leading the Department's contribution to Whole of Government initiatives that have an impact on Water Policy, or where Water Policy is a key factor in those initiatives.
- Other duties as directed and required
The role will require some travel. Probity checks will be required as part of the recruitment process.
