This advertisement is for two (2) permanent, full-time vacancies, one (1) part time contract at three (3) (0.6FTE) days a week for up to twelve (12) months, available for immediate filling.


The Office
The State Solicitor's Office (the Office) is the Western Australian Government’s principal legal adviser. The Office enables government action, manages the State’s legal risk, and supports the First Law Officer with authoritative advice on key legal issues. Our work delivers demonstrably better government decisions, strengthens the rule of law, and leads to greater community trust in the public sector. We are a centre of legal excellence committed to the highest standards of service and professionalism.
Legal Services provided by us, includes the provision of legal advice; the preparation of legal documents; the conduct of litigation; and representation as counsel in courts and tribunals. The Office provides these services in a cost effective and timely way, consistent with maintaining legal excellence and integrity in the Government's legal dealings.
Legal Sections within the Office include Civil Litigation; Public & General Litigation; State Counsel; Advice, Policy & Public Law; Native Title & State Lands and Commercial.

About the roles
The Office is seeking experienced Executive Legal Assistants to join the organisation. These positions providing direct, high quality, timely and responsive executive secretarial, paralegal and clerical support for senior lawyers in various practice teams within the organisation.

About you
We are looking for experienced Executive Legal Assistants with:

  • Experience in executive administrative roles, preferably within a legal environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in both written and oral form, with a range of people on a variety of issues.
  • Demonstrated high level organisation skills that show an ability to manage varying priorities and workloads to achieve deadlines.
  • Demonstrated excellent comprehension of grammar, punctuation, and accurate spelling and the ability to ensure work is completed to a high quality.
  • Demonstrated high standard of word processing and data entry skills.

Subsequent Vacancies
Applicants found suitable but not recommended for this vacancy, may be considered for subsequent similar vacancies in the Department for a period of twelve (12) months, in accordance with Part 5 (General Appointment) of the Commissioner's Instructions No. 2: Filling a Public Sector Vacancy and Commissioner’s Instructions No. 39: Interim Arrangements to Fill Public Sector Vacancies.


To be eligible for appointment, applicants must be Australian citizens, or have permanent residency status, or hold an appropriate working visa covering the term of the appointment, in relation to fixed-term vacancies.


The recommended applicant will be required to complete a pre-employment screening process prior to appointment. This includes undergoing employment screening, which includes a National Criminal History Check and other checks that may be relevant to the position requirements.
