Are you passionate about advocating for gender equality in local government? Do you thrive in roles that require strategic thinking, stakeholder management, and fostering collaboration? The Australian Local Government Women’s Association NSW (ALGWA NSW) is seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join us as an Executive Officer.

Since 1951, ALGWA NSW has been at the forefront of promoting the equal representation of women in local government. Our efforts have led to significant increases in the number of women elected as councillors throughout New South Wales, with women now comprising 39.5% of elected councillors.

As the Executive Officer, you will work closely with the President, Office holders, and Executive Committee members to implement our Strategic Plan, act as the primary point of contact for the Association and ensure the continuation of our momentum. This part-time role (2 days a week) with the opportunity to extend to 3 days per week as required or authorised by the Executive, offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in advancing gender equality in local government.

As the Executive Officer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective functioning of ALGWA NSW by assisting Office Bearers in fulfilling their roles within the organisation's Constitution. You will lead the development of comprehensive position descriptions for Executive Committee positions and craft terms of reference for Committees, providing clarity and structure to our operations. 

Additionally, your expertise will be instrumental in providing invaluable support and advice structures to both the Executive Committee and our members, fostering a collaborative and empowering environment. Working hand in hand with national and local government bodies, you will leverage partnerships to advance our shared objectives of gender equality in local government. 

Furthermore, you will be tasked with assisting in the development of a new Strategic Plan, where your efforts will include organising forums aimed at encouraging women to stand for election in the upcoming September 2024 council elections. 

The ideal candidate for the Executive Officer position will possess a proven track record in ensuring good governance and stakeholder management, showcasing their ability to navigate complex organisational landscapes with finesse. They will excel in fostering collaboration and building strong relationships, both with volunteers and diverse stakeholders, leveraging their adept interpersonal skills to achieve shared objectives. Proficiency in managing social media resources is essential, as they will play a crucial role in amplifying our message and engaging with our community. With a 'can-do' attitude and a steadfast commitment to achieving organisational goals within budgetary constraints, they will drive initiatives forward with enthusiasm and determination. While experience in local government is desirable, we welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds who share our passion for advancing gender equality in the public sphere.
