Form of workThe National Security Office Precinct Project (the Project) is a significant government priority. The Project is responsible for the planning and delivery of the National Security Office Precinct at York Park in Barton, ACT.
The Precinct will provide a permanent solution to the critical accommodation and capability requirements of several national security and other Commonwealth agencies. The Precinct is expected to accommodate up to 5,000 workers and will include hospitality and retail amenities servicing both the Precinct occupants and wider public. The Precinct development is one of the largest infrastructure projects in this region for many decades.
As an enabling project to the Precinct, a multi-level car park is being constructed adjacent to the John Gorton Building in Parkes, ACT. The John Gorton Campus Car Park will replace displaced car parking on the York Park site and also support worker and visitor amenity, including for nearby cultural institutions such as the National Gallery of Australia and the National Portrait Gallery. The Project timeframes are:
Stage 1: The John Gorton Campus Car Park commenced construction in July 2023 with expected completion of the structure due in late 2024.
Stage 2: The National Security Office Precinct is anticipated to commence construction in early 2025.

The key duties of the position include
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Department of Finance (Finance) is seeking a motivated, experienced and highly skilled individual to take up the role of Executive Project Director to the Project. The Executive Project Director will be responsible for the delivery of the Project. This will include:
- Leading, mentoring and motivating a multidisciplinary team to achieve high levels of performance across delivery of the Project;
- Delivering a fit-for-purpose Project, on-time, on-budget, to the required quality and with a safety and innovation mindset;
- Providing senior strategic project leadership to establish and operate a governance regime that ensures project delivery objectives by:
- Working collaboratively with the Managing Contractor to establish and maintain the Project's work plans, and monitoring and reporting against work plans;
- Ensuring the Project adheres to regulatory requirements and approvals, government policies and Australian Standards;
- Maintaining accountability for Project outcomes, and anticipating and actively mitigating risks to Project delivery and reputation;
- Implementing regular reviews and updates;
- Overseeing coordination of dependencies across projects within and beyond the Program; and
- Resolving conflicts that may arise.
- Implementing strategies for continuous improvement and professional development to enhance the capability of the project team;
- Representing the Project in a range of senior government forums as required;
- Maintaining productive working relationships with stakeholders across diverse levels and areas of government, industry and community organisations; and
- Providing direct, timely and well-judged advice and support to the Finance Executive.
Given the high security requirements of the Project, this position is Canberra-based.
