About the role
We regularly recruit law students in the later years their studies (year 3 or 4 of a double degree and penultimate year of a single law degree), on a flexible casual basis, working 2-5 days each week, dependent on study commitments and the firm's requirements.
Roles may include short of extended periods in one practice group to cover needs or as a Paralegal rotating through different practice areas, as part of the Paralegal Program.
As a Paralegal, you will be closely mentored by senior lawyers and have a varied and interesting workload. Dependent on the role and the practice group, you will generally gain experience in the following:
• Legal research tasks
• Preparing court documents for litigated matters
• Discovery of documents
• Drafting legal documents and correspondence
• Attending client meetings and shadowing mediations and informal settlements
• Running small litigated matters from start to finish.
To fulfill the inherent requirements of this role, successful candidates are required to work at least two full days a week during study semesters. These roles are casual positions therefore a degree of flexibility is offered. We appreciate that exams and the lead-up to the exam period is a stressful time, therefore, we encourage and expect law students to take time off during these periods. Whilst on semester break, law students may be offered additional hours, depending on their availability and the firm's requirements. We also anticipate that the availability of law students will change from semester to semester.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for students who are keen to get their foot in the door of a legal firm or to students who want to build on previously gained office or legal experience.
Paralegal positions are recruited throughout the year and is dependant on the specific needs of the firm. We will acknowledge your application upon receipt, although we may not contact you until a need arises.
About you
You will be a law student about to commence year three or above of a double degree (3/5) or year two or above of a single law degree (2/3). You should also be available to work at least two full days each week during your study semester.
This is an entry level position and whilst it would be desirable, you do not need to have any legal or office experience as 'on the job' training will be provided to you.
